are you against used cabinets? I had raised panel oak cabinets and when we started our remodel I sold them. There wasn't anything major wrong with them they just weren't our style. I would look and see if you could find any used cabinets that match yours (unless you don't want them to match)

I am sorry but I disagree with M Chap's advice above. You will never find used oak cabinets to match what you have due to different aging of the wood, different brand, different door design, different sizes. If you try to match used with existing 30-year-old cabinets, they will always be a bit off, and look bad. I advise the OP, if s/he doesn't want to get all new cabinets, to buy white cabinets. They go with everything.

It would help if you post a photo of your kitchen. I have to tell you--new counters on top of old cabinets plus new cabinets is likely to look a hodgepodge and not very good. New counters on top of 1989 golden oak cabinets will make the cabinets look more glaringly old.

You can absolutely make your existing cabinets work!

Utilizing the same door style, hardware, and countertops will likely be effective in tying the two cabinetry units together. A paint-grade cabinet for the addition will likely be your best option as coordinating two wood-grains/stains can be a challenge. Oak has such a distinct wood grain, pairing it with another species may cause the figure of each species to compete. If utilizing more stained oak cabinets, matching the aged stain and glaze, grain orientation, and sticking of your existing cabinetry will likely get into timely, costly custom work. In addition, if adding an oak unit, not matching the above design elements may look like a mistake.

I ahve to agree if not going cutom do something completly different on that wall. As for counters they should all be the same if you want this to look cohesive. And yes pics of the space are always a good idea. I do not agree that new counters on the old cabinets will look bad if this is done properly.

Both Lowes and Home Depot sell raised panel oak cabinets. You can buy them unfinished and try to match your current stain. That's pretty much your choices if you choose to keep your current cabinets.
