Nursery Suggestions

Hi there-

I was looking for some advice on window treatments for our nursery. I am using this room as inspiration- I love how cozy this room looks and that fact that it is gender neutral since we're not finding out! I ordered an oatmeal color cableknit blanket and pillow from West Elm for the glider. For the bedding, I am using this Serena and Lilly trellis print sheet and possible the mocha bedskirt too. I don't have any pictures of the actual room, but it's a relatively new house with a standard layout, standard size windows and neutral beige carpeting. I plan to add either coral for a girl or some shade of blue or green when they baby arrives to give the room some color. We're ordering dark stained nursery furniture.

Any suggestions for paint color, accent colors for either gender and window treatments (maybe something with blackout shades!) would be greatly appreciated! You guys always think of the best ideas!

Thanks in advance!

Congrats on the new baby! I think you will definitely regret it if you don't get something with blackout liner. Little ones really need a nice dark room to nap in, so if I were you I'd make the blackout the priority, pick your shades first and paint color second since you have so many options for paint. You could have custom shades made, but that's a pricey option. I've had great experience with cordless blackout Roman shades from Restoration Hardware Baby and also with blackout panels from Pottery Barn Kids. In terms of color, I think navy would pop better with your mocha bedding and add more of a boyish feel than baby blue or green (plus he can still use the shades as he gets older!!). If it's a girl, it seems like a berry color or lavender shade might contrast with the neutral bedding better than coral. Or you could keep the shades neutral and do a darker grey-colored shade (like the headboard in the photo) and paint the walls a subtle petal pink or baby blue. If you're handy at sewing, a cute idea might be to add your own grosgrain ribbon to the neutral shade and make a couple of little pillow covers with Serena & Lily sheet fabric plus the grosgrain ribbon to tie it all together!

Your decor reminds me of these rooms. I really like the idea of the roman shade and curtain combo in the second picture. Maybe something like this?

You guys are awesome. I do think roman shades with blackout would be best- and there are no cords to think about too. I love the neutral nursery pictures you posted too. I think some color will be nice when they baby arrives, but just as accent color, not overwhelming because I want to keep it pretty neutral and calm.

Thanks again for your thoughts and suggestions!

Congrats- all these baby houzzers are making me broody lol.

Love your colour scheme- and if you check a fellow mama hoUzzer to be ivy1999 on her thread - she has chosen very similar colours! Green n coral. Also about halfway down we finally get round to discussing window options with lots of suggestions/ pics- so have a browse at those suggestions.
I love the roman blind and sheer drapes combo- best of both. Light dreamy coverings with practicalities of a blackout- what more do you want :)

And I totally agree with the others! A neutral decor can stil look amazing, and then you can experiment with colour later.

Remember you're likely to get gifts for the nursery- so those may help you/lean you towards a specific colour after baby is born :)

Do all the messy long jobs of painting etc before he/she is here- because they won't give you much time after!

And why not just do multicolour accessories- why restrict yourself- its a child's room... Let yourselves play a little :)

Love your idea! If it's a girl, a very soft pink would look nice .. and for a boy, teal.

Congratulations! Please post a pic after the baby arrives!
