Spicebush (Lindera benzoin)?

Yes - a Lindera.

Scrape a young twig with your fingernail and smell it if you want to know why it's called Spicebush. Very common lowland understory shrub around here. If you see a yellow haze in the woods this time of year it's probably this plant.

Agree w/spicebush. Very early bloomers.

They're {mostly?} dioecious; here's a helpful reference if you want to sort out whether you have a male or female plant.
