STPP buying update

Where is everyone buying their stpp now? I can't find a link to the chemistry store on amazon or ebay now. There is some available for purchase on ebay from cesco, but I have never heard of them.

Here's a link to the Chemistry Store

    Pro Supply on Amazon.

I was wondering the same thing. I can't find stpp by pro supply on amazon. For the chemistry store shipping is over $25 for 10 lbs of stpp. I don't want to buy from Dafna due to cases in the past of stpp not really being stpp.

Pro supply outlet is out on amazon currently (haven’t check eBay). I have used Cesco and works just as good as pro supply. I avoid dafna store stpp as others have got not authentic stpp.

Is there a way to tell of the STPP is authentic or not? I did buy from Dafna and now I am wondering if I have the real stuff

I just ordered the Cesco STPP from amazon. Thanks Larisa.

I have stpp for my dishwasher but is it that much better in the wash than borax or calgon?

@CJ I don't know of an easy way to determine if the powder you have is really STPP. It's easy to test the PH, however. Neutral PH is 7, neither acid nor alkaline. A higher number is alkaline; lower is acid. You could test your tap water with litmus paper, then add the powder and test again. You'd be looking for the PH to increase after you add the powder. If the powder doesn't raise the PH of the water, then I would question whether it is STPP.

Ideally, tap water is neutral, but often isn't. A 1% solution of STPP should have a PH of 9.2 to 10.2, but the water you start with may not be neutral.

I just bought from Cesco on Amazon. Same pricing as on ebay I believe. Here is their website:

    https://cescosolutions.com

Looks very reputable and the prices with free shipping is better than the Chemistry Store.

Cesco is very reputable. They are from my hometown in Bellingham Wa. We used them when we used to own our restaurant for cleaning chemicals. The only issue I’ve had with their stpp is it comes in ziplock bag vs pro supply has a really nice foil bag that keeps it fresh. No worries though as I just transfer it over. It works the same as pro supply for the actual stpp so that’s all I’m concerned about.

Larisa, I used to live in Bellingham in the early to late 80's. my son is there now.

I have a Chemistry Store STPP bucket I'll put mine into.

What a small world :) I was born at St. joes hospital there where I was given up for adoption at four days old and moved to whidbey island. My birth mom still lives in Bellingham and get this works at st joes in the labor and delivery unit :). Now we live far far away in the Deep South aka humidity hell in central Georgia. Hubby was born and raised here.

Anyways sorry to get off topic but I put it in a small Tupperware container and remaining in the pro supply bag :)

Yeah, getting off topic is fun! Thanks Larisa for your story. I worked at St Joes too, on Medical floor. Left B'ham in the late 80's to move. back to Iowa and have been here since. I just returned from a trip to Seattle and B'ham last week. Had a nice time with son in Seattle and son in Bellingham.

I just bought 10 lb from Cesco. Seemed like the only viable option. I won't buy from the Chemestry Store because of the outrageous shipping.

Thanks, @moxie. I will get litmus paper and give that a try.

@moxie - I did the primative test. My water started with a ph of 7, I mixed the 1% solution of the dafna store STPP, and it looks like the ph is between 9 & 10.

What makes me suspicious is that when I add it to laundry, it seems to cause an inordinate amount of sudsing. I use 1 tbsp or less in a front loader. Indeed, so many suds that I need to go through multiple extra rinse cycles and I still can’t get rid of them. I don’t experience this same phenomenon when I don’t use STPP. I can still get a bunch of sudsing, depending on which detergent I use and the wash load (rags loaded with various cleaning solutions can be a problem), but I don’t find myself using separate extra rinse after extra rinse cycles.

That’s some of the issues with dafna products. It might be stppbut could be cut with something else. You shouldn’t have much suds when adding it to your normal amount of detergent. The cesco or pro supply stpp don’t do that for me at all.

I would contact dafna and explain what’s going on. Your not the first person to complain about their products. I try and stick with what works and that is not dafna unfortunately.

I use about 1-2 tablesppons in my wash depending on how much laundry I am doing. I do have super hard water. I use 1/2 tsp with dishwasher detergent.

Hopefully you find a solution. Good luck.

Seems reasonable that STPP may trigger some increase in sudsing being that some of its functionality is as a water softener (sequesters mineral content). Softened water (less free mineral content) = more sudsing from the detergent.

Could be that there is soap buildup in the machine and or clothing.

Larsi stripped/deep cleaned his towels with STPP to get the soap out. Larsi's towels. I'd do a few STPP-only runs on a specific set of items to see if the suds would eventually get down to virtually no bubbles in the rinse. If you still have a lot of suds after that, then I'd suspect that there is something extra in the powder.

I agree with Dadoes comment about stpp and sudsing.

When I use stpp I have to reduce the amount of detergent I use due to increased sudsing. I have a full fill top loader and I use 2 TBS per load these days. When I first started with stpp I had to use a bit more to get slippery water. We have variable water hardness/softness here, lately 2 TBS is doing to job.
