Help with office decor

I just finished converting a formal living room into an office/den and I'm having trouble finishing the room. To me, the construction part is easy but when it comes to decorating I am lost. I can easily pick out things I like but cannot put them together. I made this industrial style shelving unit and have had 3 things on it for about a month now. I really like old, vintage, industrial, styles but the rest of the room is a bit more formal so I am not sure how to incorporate my style without looking mismatched. Please help!

Did you want to use the shelves to hold something? Like office supplies?

I would pull the two chairs closer to the sofa. They seem stuck in the corner.

How about a Roman blind for the window? How about a large colorful framed print for the long wall.

Thanks for the input. I still need to buy a coffee table for the sitting area so that's why the chairs look a bit disconnected at the moment. I just completed the built in unit and intend to use it for books mostly but some decorations as well. The lower cabinets will be used for the office supplies. I'm mainly looking for advice on the desk area.

    I'm not sure I'm following..

    Is this an office/den?

    Or a media room?

Or a man cave/ femme den?

    Is there doors leading outside?

    LOVE LOVE the color!

This is an office/den. It was a formal living room prior to us moving in. It was originally an exterior room in the back of the house but a sunroom was added off the back of it.

It's not likely we can advise you "on just the desk area" without incorporating the rest of the room if you're looking to "incorporate your style without looking mismatched"

The "industrial" look of your shelves (which I personally love) and the vibe of your fireplace do not match at all for example.

Perhaps we can help you better if you choose to look at the whole room as opposed to "just the desk area."

Thanks Janie. I am open to anything really. Between the shelves over the desk, the fireplace mantel, the walls, and the built in unit I have a clean slate to work with. I would like to keep what I have so far if possible but otherwise i am open to suggestions. The only style my wife and I do not like is modern.

We are still really struggling to find a coffee table we like for this room. We were trying to find an oval one but didn't wan't one with a glass top. We were also looking at buying the console table below for under the square metal piece on the wall.

You know what would look really cool?

Stop thinking of this as an "office/den" and think more "library."

Imagine the long wall full of books with a cool industrial rolling library ladder.

    This might be helpful.

“The square metal piece” being the vent? I would painted it indigo in order to disguise it into the wall... Love your room! I would look for a big photo or painting in bold dark colors for that wall

Sorry, didn't realize the picture I posted didn't have the metal wall decor I was referring to.

I see. Well, the vent looks pretty weird above your art... definitively paint the vent the same color of your wall. And I would look for a bigger artwork.
