Where did you see the rose (what part of the world)?

In Texas, zone 8. Lots of old roses around here, but I haven't seen this one before.

I could buy this as a Hybrid Musk, but I don't know which one.

'Cornelia' has more petals, but don't they look "related"?

Jaqueline, I'll try to go back to get a pic of the whole bush, but it's definitely a climber or a rambler. It is planted next to a fence and is triangular, with a narrow bottom and fanning out to the right and left over the fence. It's close to 8 feet tall.

Here are closeups of the leaves and buds and thorns. The thorns are wicked, like small fishhooks. No rosehips visible on the bush.

It looks a bit like 'Trier'. I was looking through Dutch nursery Tuincentrum Lottum's huge rose list the other day, and got the impression that there are a lot of musky shrub-rambler type roses available: large, leafy, shrubby plants with abundant small flowers.

Thank you Melissa and Paul, I looked up Trier and that is exactly what it looks like. Went back and took a pic of the entire rose, it also looks like the Trier shrubs I found on google. Thank you for ID'ing the mystery rose, it's nice to be able to put a name to it.

Not a showy rose, but notably balanced and fresh: it's understandable that Pemberton used it in his breeding program. I've tried 'Trier' and lost it twice; it doesn't like my soil. I'd love to prepare a really good hole for it and try, try again.

Comtesse, the first photo was taken on a rainy, overcast day so the foliage looks darker than it does in person. It is actually a nice, light(ish) medium green, no gray at all. Another thing I noticed is how healthy the entire bush is. No blackspot, which is rampant around here after spring rains.

There is also what I assume to be "The Fairy" planted in the same parking lot. I have the climbing form and the leaves and flowers look identical.

Vapor, lots of old properties around here and many surviving old roses. When out and about you often see Old Blush, Mutabilis, and others that are unknown to me. We were out in the country yesterday and there was a huge pink blooming rose bush in the fenced in yard of a very old house, not sure what it was but wish I'd been able to take a cutting of that one.
