I'm waiting for Baby Doll to finish getting it's true colors for the season, to see if any of it still looks like BD, or if the whole plant has reverted to Blue Cadet.

Also waiting to see if Rainforest Sunrise has the same green sport this year that it had last summer... and which I thought I had removed a few years ago.

I don't think there is a stable Baby Doll out there.

Mine and all those I ask have the same experience.

All we can do is divide out the blue each year and enjoy what is left.

I bought what looked like a sport with Gypsy Rose last year and removed all of the Gypsy Rose from it. Planted it in the ground, but so far (it's still early) it is coming up like Gypsy Rose, but Gypsy Rose changes. I'll wait and see what the rest of the season brings. Worst case, I have another Gypsy Rose.

In this top-down view you can see the 3 sides that appear to be sporting, solid blue on the far left, a shade of greenish blue on the right on 2 shoots and the 'softened' blue at the top left. I think for this year I'll limit myself to removing the all-blue shoots and we'll wait another year and another evaluation before the other sides get dealt with...

Nice wide margins, Steve, great find! As to what to call it would require determining how close this one is to any of the other wider margin sports. Not all of those are readily available in the trade and it'll be a challenge trying to find a picture of them since they're not all in the HL, for example there's no pix of 'Kotei' None of the others I find on Hugo's database have margins as wide as yours and it could well be that you indeed have something unique here, which would warrant it's own name as far as I'm concerned.

I am definitely NOT an expert, but doesn’t that look a lot like Liberty? Except for the part about it being a vigorous grower.

I have a First Frost that has never sport before and the most beautiful gold has showed up. It is in such a jumble of shoots I hate to disturb it. Love it, Is it new or reverting back to it's ancestor ?

Steve, how wide are the margins on your 'Liberty' and how does it compare to the pictures in the HL?

I divided a solid light coloured sport out of 'Earth Angel' last year and by season's end it had withered, not enough chlorophyl I guess...there was another one showing on the same plant towards the end of the season but I haven't seen any sign of it as yet this year....

What I have identified in the original post as 'Kifukurin Otome' is in fact most likely 'Kinbotan' seeing as it does the same thing my sport did last year: the margin viridesces whereas there is no evidence I can dig up of KO doing that. Funny thing is there is a notation on Hugo's database that 'Kinbotan' is a slow grower but if you look at some of the pictures in the HL you'll see some sizeable plants and mine is a nice grower, both divisions I took last year have doubled their number of shoots.

My Liberty has narrower margins, is shorter and the leaves are smaller. Here it is this year. It was planted a year earlier than the plant below.

It’s very very pretty, whatever it is.
