suggestions for ceiling

This is our ceiling in our living room. we are wanting to add some coffered ceilings or wood beams or just molding and are looking for ideas and how exactly it can be laid out. The curved window is making it difficult. Any suggestions?

I wouldn't add beams or decoration. I would keep the clean lines and paint the ceiling in a dramatic color - deep burgundy, rich brown, dark gray, navy blue.

You might consider painting the ceiling a different color - perhaps something dramatic and unexpected. I agree with Irene Morresey - a stellar chandelier would help fill up the space and provide visual interest as well as additional lighting. Good luck with it and please post after photos!

One option I'd consider would be moving the can lights to the corners (and only having four) and then add a cool fixture in the center of the room. I think positioning can lights in the corners/edges of rooms helps with lighting quality (less directly overhead) and reduces the bullet hole look that canlights can give your ceiling, giving you more clean, uninterrupted ceiling.

If you ultimately go with coffering, I'd ditch the can lights altogether and stick with the one central fixture and add sconces to replace the lost lighting from the cans. I've always found that having can lights in coffering takes away from the drama.

IMO a bad idea so go with one of the suggestions above

I would paint the ceiling black . It looks beautiful as is . ! What a great high space ! Dramatic ! Keep it simple .. Unless you can afford an outrageous chandelier ...don't just hang a lamp ....in that space ...you will need something very unusual or keep it as is ! In your travels , ...one day , you may come upon a fantastic lamp ...and then you can change it ....but until then .....I would not tamper with that gorgeous high ceiling and space .

thanks for all the suggestions. I love the idea of a 3 part chandelier and painting the ceiling. My only issue is that we have knockdown texture on the ceilings so I'm worried painting it will make the knockdown stick out. ideally I'd love to have someone come and make it smooth, but it's low on my list of house things right now.

Skim coating would be easier done than adding beams. Plus it seems really tall so if you want to skip the skim coat and paint it with flat paint you’d hardly notice any texture from that distance.

It won't stick out more if you paint it another color ..but , if you don't want to change the paint to make it more dramatic and it's already a beautiful high ceiling , ( lucky you !!) then , if you have the money invest as has been suggested in a drop dead chandelier ...!!!!!! I have bought lamps from ABC carpet and homes in New York , who , have a beautiful selection ..and I have seen gorgeous lamps that would be great ..eventually , when and if you CAN ...look at these samples ,Maine are from a website " unusual designer chandeliers " ...good luck ! It's a beautiful space , wonderful ceiling and NO!!!!!! To beams ! Why would you put beams there ??? It would be a really BAD idea !!!

If you float the coffered ceiling so it doesn't touch your walls you might have a better chance of being successful. I'm assuming your lights are aligned even though that doesn't appear in your photo.
