I planted an Areca palm in front of my bathroom windows. Took about 2 months to cover. Obviously plant it far enough from the front of the house.

If you don't do the frosted glass, how about Sea Grape? You mention you need something that is salt tolerant, that's what made me think of it.

OOOhhh - Good ideas. I have a crepe myrtle on the other side that has a couple whips I could transplant. I have a few young sea grapes I took seeds from the old home as well. They do grow extraordinarily fast and dense. Area is also a fast grower, but I've BTDT before and had to try to regain ground they spread like wildfire the second + years.

Silvia - The front of the house gets some sun but the back is 80% shade. I would ALWAYS welcome an afternoon in your yard. So many wonderful plants that you have around your home. I can't wait to see you again. Perhaps as the summer winds down would be a good time to do that...best chance of survival and all. I <3 your garden!

I'm just trying to figure out what kind of architect would design a house with a bathroom in the front with such a huge window. The HOA likely isn't going to like you having frosted glass on a front window. Beware areca palms. They clump, and the clump can get very large, very quickly. Maybe they'd let you have a trellis with Confederate Jasmine on it? That way you could open the window in the spring and smell the flowers.

We have a bathroom window facing the street also. We have Florida tint on all the windows, so you can't see inside during the day. I installed sheers just for a little extra cover. Then we have wooden blinds and open them half way during the day and completely closed at sunset. Problem solved!

Mine's on the west side of the house which is the side no one sees, so I don't care how big it gets. :) It was the only place I planted it.

Jasmine may be a great way to cover it. Just have to plant it far enough away it won't climb the house itself. :-)

Linda - I've not heard of Florida tint, I'll look into that. I have shutters, problem is there is a giant tub in front of the window so I can't just open and close the shutters or I wouldn't need the plants. I'd like to leave them 1/3 open and just have the plant to keep anyone from making out any naked parts. LOL

I would put up a temporary set of cafe curtains, probably on a spring-rod, and that slide easily open and shut so I could look out while in the tub (I would never buy a house without a window view of trees to look at while showering!).

I do not suggest jatropa or firebush, as mine that are planted against the house on the NE side insisted on growing up to the roof line where the sun is before spreading and flowering.
