That almost looks like the beginning of adventitious roots. Is it moist and warm around the base of the plants?

yes im pretty sure thats an adventitous roots, but it only cam out because the stem is beginning to peel back the skin or something. like whatever is going on is causing the stem to start splitting/opening or something

I don't think its too moist. there is no mulch near the base of the plant. and its pretty open. also this isn't near the base its far up the plant. its not rained in over a week.

Those little white "nubs" certainly could be adventitious roots "erupting" from the plant. While I haven't seen it in a while, there is probably still plenty of people who believe that the "hairs" on the tomato plant magically turn into roots. In reality, the roots are formed from cells near the center of the stem, closer to the vascular bundle that the water and nutrients travel through. As the roots grow and push outwards, the cells that make up the cortex and epidermis rip and tear as they separate.

The process can also show the blotchy discoloration in the epidermal cells as the roots begin to push outwards on it, or any number of relatively benign environmental factors can cause this. Some sort of abrasion or lesion in the stem (that can be from rough handling or rubbing against supports) can cause what could be described as "scar tissue" to form. I wouldn't be concerned unless you start to see it becoming necrotic and spreading.

Thanks! I was very worried and concerned I would lose all my plant. I have never seen such on tomato plants before, especially with the discolorations.
