Concur that you do not have Dwarf Grey Sugar. American Seed Company does not list Dwarf Grey Sugar, just Mammoth Melting and Oregon Sugar Pod. I have never had any problems with their seeds. All their seeds are common open pollinated varieties. Limited selection. Never grown Oregon Sugar Pod, But Dwarf Grey Sugar and Mammoth melting Sugar are snow peas not snap peas. They get tough at the first sign of seed formation, have to be harvested early and often.

It looks and sounds like you may have the correct plant. Dwarf Grey Sugar Peas are a snow pea, not a snap pea like Sugar Anne or Sugar Snap. The pods will get tough if you do not pick them when young before the seeds swell at all. And even then you would want to string them. If you wait for them to fill out like a snap pea they will definitely be tough. They are not sweet like most snap peas. And they are not dwarf in height, only in pod size. Five feet in height is not unusual...your 6+ feet doesn't surprise me.

It sounds like you may have expected a snap pea in which case you should go with Sugar Ann or some other snap variety, not a snow pea.

I have grown Dwarf Grey Sugar a few times and have never had them 4 feet or more in height, as High Mowing suggests in your link, naturegirl. Strange that they are the only source I can find claiming they grow taller than 3 feet.

matthias- Do you have any seeds left so you can show how they look? Dwarf Grey Sugar has smooth, grey speckled seeds.

I do have seeds left. I'll try to get a photo tomorrow. They are speckled, but color varies. Seed packet says they will mature at 2.5 feet tall. Yes, the pods are small; I was expecting that.

I have tried picking them at all stages, but they are tough regardless. They are sweet, though.

The seeds--
