I’m in the early stages of planning a partial remodel of a our guest bathroom. It’s a small room with no windows (see attached picture) and I would like to get a more contemporary look. I am leaning towards keeping the white square tile on the shower surround, but install black or charcoal tile on the floors and shower pan. The walls will be painted white, the mirror and medicine cabinet replaced/removed, and hardware replaced with matte black hardware.

1. Will dark flooring make the room look smaller?
2. I am trying to decide between hexagon and penny tile. Are there any practical considerations (waterproofing of shower pan etc) that makes one better than the other? From an aesthetic pov I think a larger tile like a medium size hex tile might look less busy and make the space appear larger?
