That's a pretty grass! In the bed behind it is a red Japanese maple and fuchsia magellanica aurea so that would look nice. Thank you!

I grow A. ternarius but wouldn't recommend that one for your situation myself because its so late in producing blooms and isn't ornamental at all until rather late in fall through winter. The rest of the year it's blah and nondescript. It also self sows aggressively because the fluffy seeds detach easily and blow everywhere. Its good in prairie gardens or along driveways but not ornamental enough for a planter.

If you want a native grass, a very ornamental, low care variety I recommend is Sideoats Grama [Bouteloua curtipendula]. The leaves are very stiff deep green especially when grown in full sun. Its quick to green up in spring, puts out a multitude of stiff, spiky stems loaded with golden seeds starting in spring and continuing through summer into fall and it holds up well in winter. Its gorgeous back lit by the sun or artificially at night. It self sows only moderately. Its a vase shaped grass.
