I have not seen Colorado potato beetles on my tomatoes. Please check the identification to see if this is the beetle you mean. Fill a small pail with sudsy water and start patrolling your plants, knocking the beetles into the water to drown. I used something I could cap so I left it in the garden to keep re-using. The first sign of Colorado potato beetles is a little pink slug like thing. An internet website says they will feed on other members of the nightshade family like tomatoes and peppers but I haven't had that problem. Maybe they like potatoes too much.

The first sign of Colorado Potato beetles is the old adults that have emerged from their winter hibernation. That is the best time to nip the situation in the bud by killing these adults at first appearance. That means that you have to be pro-active...not just reactive.

I have had potato beetles eat some of my tomato plants. However, they do not attack all of them. They seem to be very picky about which ones they do attack.

A few years ago potato beetles ate my potatoes down to the the ground then ate 200 of my 3-4 ft. tomato plants down to the ground stem and all. You have to go after them as stated. Also check the undersides of the leaves and rub out all the eggs. They will look like yellow dots in row maybe 30 on a leaf. The really problem begins when the eggs hatch and the larva begin to eat your plants. The tomato plants they ate were about 20 different varieties. They were working their way up (2) 650 foot rows of tomatoes.
