Horizontal. Don't get the arched entrance or white arching to the left of entrance.

The arched entrance is already a part of this home. The arch on the left above that window is a mistake in the software that I’m not able to fix online but it won’t be there.

I think you’ll realize that the arched entrance will prove to be non-functional as a portico and becomes an eyesore. There are many posts here asking for advice on how to minimize them. I would try to get it lowered or find a different plan.

Why I appreciate the feedback from you both, I am really only asking about the siding as that is the only feature that I am willing to change. I also like the portico. Thanks

I like the board and batten look a bit better. But you can't go wrong with either.

Skip the brick- it is clearly just tacked on. If you want a mix of materials I could do the whole house horizontal clapboard with board and batten on the two projecting bays.

Hmmmm. I don’t think it’s just tacked on. I think it’s just the software. Here is what it looks like now. I currently have horizontal siding on my house but it needs replacing.

Use both to make your home more interesting. Board & Batten on the gables.

Make sure you order some great doors for the garage. Consider gable vents with brackets as a decorative trim item
I don't like the brick columns on your home. Keep the brick confined to a low band on the house.

I've started to alter your elevation so you can see how much more interesting the house can appear.

I wouldn't feel bad if you got rid of all the brick

Here is another example of using both materials. Your house could be so much more charming with a little effort.

Updating the pics to a mixture of board and batten and Horizontal.

Its a nice looking house. I like the horizontal siding the best.

I was just thinking the same thing. It’s akin to asking “how do you like my dress”

response: your teeth are so yellow, your hair is a mess and you could stand to lose 10 pounds.

It isn’t very helpful to pick things apart that I haven't asked about. I clearly only need advice on the siding. Thats it. I think people are ultimately coming from a good place but it’s a bit annoying to have every piece of my house picked apart.

Also I did try to update to say this is just a remodel but it won’t allow me to. This is just a remodel folks. Not building from scratch.

People come here asking for advice on improving things. Pro's are giving their expert advice free, they see things that maybe you or I might miss, take what you want and leave the rest, easy! You never know, some of the ideas they gave you, may stick in your mind, and come in handy later on. Keep an open mind.

Just ignore.. I roll my eyes at least 10x a day reading these boards. I like the updated with both board/batten and horizontal siding!

doods... but saying "don't get the arched entry" and "skip the brick" most likely these are things they adore and are set on since they didn't ask to critique the whole exterior. It's unnecessary in my opinion.

Thanks Casamacho. Which looks do you prefer best? Batten alone or the mixture? Thanks!

Hard to choose I think I like the mixture though!

    Okay, thanks!

Casamacho ... all I'm saying is people's likes and dislikes can change, so when and if they do, they have food for thought.

No mixing! Pick either or; let the colors (and your landscaping/hardscaping!) provide the interest. Also, I’ll bet your lighting could be updated. Flower boxes (or are they called window boxes? I can never remember.) look like they could be incorporated, too. :)

Thanks Sammy. which look do you prefer?

westmain... I'm not a pro but I like the horizontal, I like the contrast with the linear brick posts of your portico. Your rendition of the mixed version is also very nice. Actually looking at them both closer, I prefer your rendition of the mixed horizontal, and board and batten. Like that you have the horizontal to the left and right of, and in the entranceway which in my eyes provides contrast with the linear brick posts. Prefer your version of the mixed which I find less busy than Beverly's. Also to me your mixed version is more interesting than the plain horizontal, I really like it!

I would say horizontal siding but maybe a bit larger reveal, like a 6" vs 4". Not sure board and batten really fits with the house and not crazy about using brick and horizontal and board and batten. Thats a lot of competing ideas. Keep it simple.

Wasn't one of the choices but I really like the shingle look in the first photo that Beverly posted.
