What area of the country? What style windows? Installing yourself or having a window pro install? Budget? Most brands will offer that sort of package but we need a bit more info to send you in the correct direction.

+1 to the above questions. Are you partial to one material over another as well? The answer is yes to the question of a black/white split, there are several.

We live in Los Angeles, Studio City to be exact so lots of sun. I am agnostic to which brand currently as we are just starting. One of the GCs we interviewed recommended Milgard. Our priorities are windows that can best minimize sound, energy efficient and can provide a contemporary farmhouse look.

@sharron08 your windows look amazing! Thank you. When you say fading baked into the window color, does this mean they won’t be fading anymore than the color you’ve gotten them? Also, do you have a closeup picture of the black part of the window?

@apple the black is “baked” into the finish vs. being painted on. So if you were to slice my window in half, the black color goes all the way through. Let me look through my pictures I’m sure I have some close ups.

@apple Here are some pictures. Notice the very clean/finished corners. Being that you are from CA, my favorite homebuilder, Toll Brothers, builds amazing homes out there! I was so please to see that they have the exact same windows in their $1-2M homes in Irvine. I know it’s close but far due to traffic from LA, but might not hurt to take a trip out there on a weekend and see them in person for yourself. Let me know if you have any other questions or need better/closer pictures of something specific-I’m at the site pretty much everyday.

@sharron08 hi there, I think we are going to go with Andersen windows. Wondering what you went with for your front entry door or any input on what brands to stay away from? We are also installing a 12 to 16 foot patio door and thinking of la cantina. Any thoughts on those?

Man, those window details are horrid.

As the other pros stated, this color package is available in nearly any high quality window of any material. Assuming once again that its a good product, the exterior finishes are pretty comparable as well, with perhaps an edge given to something like the Kynar that Marvin uses. The Andersen windows mentioned by Sharon are a decent choice in the right circumstances. Nothing tremendous about that exterior color coating however, a little overzealous salesmanship there IMO. Every product will fade to some degree, and the darker the color, the more noticeable that will be.

Sorry, I’m not getting my notifications. I would not recommend Anderson 100 sliding doors. If you do Anderson, you need to go with a higher grade door and make sure you see it to know exactly what you are getting. La Cantina is nice but they were out of our price range. Those metal doors also aren’t as energy efficient as it gets cold here. Living in CA that could be less of a concern for you. I would recommend also looking at Western Doors they are a direct competitor La Cantina. We ended up going with a Pella sliding door-they have a modern one that has less trim around and more glass. It’s metal on the outside and wood on the inside. Although I forget it’s wood on the inside, I would have MUCH preferred an anodized metal door like La Cantina or Western Door System from a low maintenance perspective. If you have the budget go for it-it’s next level! My front door is an iron door from KCLuxury Door Company in Tx. I worked with Byron Booth. You can pick a standard door they make or custom design for the same cost-just takes longer to make. In regards to a comment made by someone regarding fading. Or course one should expect a level of fading they are beat up by the sun all day. However, I don’t have to worry about having to repaint them because the paint is pealing etc. Once again, these windows are being used by high end builders like Toll Brothers. If you have the budget, I would recommend looking at Pella windows or Marvin windows as well. These are the windows I chose and I am happy with them. They look much better than all the vinyl windows I see around town. Happy Reno!

We looked at Andersen 100 doors as well. They used a very deep gray channel, that will be filled with dirt in no time. Was not impressed with the exterior. Many $300 exterior sliders have better details.

We went with Andersen 400 series casement. We did black/black but you can easily do black/white. Very happy with the windows, they look great. And Andersen does not upcharge on colors. Also if you go Andersen I really suggest using Home Depot. I used local lumber yards for much of my build but HD really killed everyone when it camer to Andersen pricing. I saved about 25-30%. On the patio doors I saved close to 40% over the closest lumber yard.

LOL, andersen distributor here had no issues beating HD bid room price. I actually was shocked over the markup. Only one tried to pull list price minus 15% "special", licking his chops hoping he is gonna break the bank on me. Boy was he surprised - when I told him his price is c* and he is obviously not interested in me as a client.

I agree with Marjen, we shopped around and in my town HD had the best price on Andersen due to their volume. But do shop around as BT found a better deal outside of HD.

Pricing can vary , I have seen it both ways . Hot tip for cheapskates is to get bid room pricing and buy when Menards has 11% off , Home Depot will give the addition 11% via rebate or online.

@toddinmn it doesn't seem like Menards sells Anderson in order to price match.

whenever Menards runs there 11% off on everything Home Depot will match that in every thing regardless of what it is. This can be done online through there website.

No Menards in Connecticut. I'll try though. I'll keep an eye out for 11% off. This post has me really considering 100 series black on black.

Does anyone know if you can see any black frame from the inside? If black outside and white inside can you see the opposite from from the other side?

Split finish pricing will vary depending on the product, it will generally be lower on vinyl if either side is white.

Regarding what is seen, yes, you will always see the opposite side to some degree. The extreme contrast between black and white jusyt makes it more noticeable. Most folks are okay with it when the window is closed, its when its opened and you see the transition from one color to the other that is questioned more frequently. As Todd said, casements look nicer than double hungs as they don't having the balance channels, etc. and they have a more logical "termination" point for the color.

Seeing a sample of the window in the color combo is best. Seen to many post here when homeowners are dissapointed for some reason. The color has to stop and start somewhere.
