If that is what you want to do, sure.

It's your house, but you might want to give it some thought. Dark will make the room look/feel smaller. I need really bright light in ours just to see the stains on clothing, so I can pretreat them all, so my laundry room is an off white color. We have no desire to make a decorating statement in there LOL and do that in other rooms. In my day we called them utility rooms because that's what they are, just like the garage. It's a different world now. YMMV

Holly, if you want it....do it. I feel that a laundry room is a place to decorate in colors that you normally wouldn’t use elsewhere. I bought red washer and dryer and then went from there. Took my favorite apron (bright yellow) to the paint store and asked them to match it. Put black subway tiles halfway up the wall, a black sink open shelves with copper pipes. That was 5 years ago I still enjoy it.

If you go dark have great lighting available to switch on when you do the laundry. @Cavimum brings up a very good point about needing excellent task lighting. Laundry takes that attention to get it right.
