The kitchen needs some personality. I say go for it.

Though it's not my style, I say go for it if you love it. Picking a color from it to use elsewhere in the kitchen would be good, like the blue or yellow (not a big red fan). I always have lemons on my counter or island, so I like your idea there. A wooden bowl would be nice and would tie in with your flooring and door. Or, maybe a blue bowl that matches the toaster's blue and use it for lemons. Blue + yellow = nice!

I checked online...expensive, for sure! Again, if you love it...and your (nice!) kitchen could be fun with some color added in.

I see more orange in your photo on my screen. I found this photo that looks more lemon yellow. Computer screens are so darn iffy.

I was going to say, "go for it" until I saw the price!!! That's LOT of money if in the end you don't like it. I'd try the Dualit instead - pricey but not nearly as pricey as the one you posted.

Frankly, I'd just get a bowl and keep fruit/veggies in it for color. Also, perhaps a rug - some art.

I am struggling to reconcile "I am going for a calming, clean, organic feel (neutrals, wood, linen, etc)" with that toaster. I think the toaster is great and would look great in the kitchen, but the result definitely won't be calming and organic. I also think that if "the colors are happy and make [you] smile" that you probably won't regret the purchase. Think of it as art.

But dang, that's a lot of money for a toaster.

I agree that a white kitchen without anything is sterile to me but that's my personal aesthete. I am not a minimalist although I am not someone who enjoys clutter for the sake of clutter.

I like the joyous quality of those appliances but wouldn't spend $850 on a toaster but why can't you achieve the same type of joyous personal quality with something else that is utilitarian yet fun - some kind of pottery is the easiest choice.

It's adorable, but I don't think so in your kitchen. The soft blue Smeg is pretty. Have you seen the Union Jack?

Save yourself $800 with this.

A white kitchen does need some color. One or two bright pieces will be fine. More might be overwhelming. Pick a color in your colored pieces and use that color for measuring cups or picture frames or coffee mugs. It will make your kitchen unique and cheerful. It is YOUR kitchen!

Come on. It's a toaster. Do you like it? Then buy it. It's just a toaster, not a lifelong commitment. Yes, it's expensive (and stupidly so), You and everyone else is being taken for a sucker as they tack a $700 premium on an already overpriced countertop appliance. But it's just a toaster.

OMG its a toaster go for it and love it and if you stop loving it put it in the cabinet IMO the price is ridiculous but that is your problem you will need to bring a color from it somewhere else in the kitche IMO to have it make some sense. My choice would be a dualit they work forever are pretty colors and easy to live with forever but IMO if you love get it.

So it’s $850 for something you love? I know people who spend $850 on a pair of Prada sandals ... put it into perspective , you can spend $850 on lots of transitory things such as gambling, expensive restaurants, spa treatments, etc. etc. if you love it go for it.

J Corn, thanks for the info about the UNICEF store. I've shopped their partner Novica for years because all their goods are OOAK and fair-trade without the middleman. Any purchase that vaccinates children is a bonus in my book!

I'm a toast person and very particular about the functional aspect of even browning and ability to toast larger artisan breads. I also like to be able to toast four regular slices at a time. SMEG is one of the few that meets all those issues.

Whoa! I was ready to join the Go for it! chorus until I saw the post that included the price. Aaayy. There is so much that $700 premium could do!

I'm definitely guilty of overspending on the things I love, but I really can't wrap my head around an $850 toaster where 90% of the expense is for the D&G branding.

The price is insane but it's your house and money and easy to remove if you get sick of it. Do they have it at a local store so you can buy it, keep it on the counter (unused) for the duration of the return period and then see if you still love it enough to keep it? Maybe after 30 or 90 days you'll feel "meh" and be open to cute pottery like groveraxel suggested.

Don't know where you live, but $850 might pay for a weekend trip somewhere, like to Santa Barbara where you can buy some Italian pottery. ;)

I like color. I think neutrals are great for backgrounds, but if color makes you chipper, then don't let a preconception about a "tranquil spa kitchen" squelch that. Here's your toaster with some other bits to help round out the kitchen...
