I’d go all-in all navy if indeed you get lots of natural light. Not a fan of different colored accent walls.

It would be good to change it up and skip the grey in here, especially given the color of your bed. White, Navy and wood look so nice together.

As an aside: I did a plank wall in my living and room combination and I don’t really like it. Right now it is painted BM Dove White and it looks too yellowish to me. I’m just not crazy for the look and color.

My husband had to redo some drywall in there and it was a mess, so after drywalling I had a brilliant idea to cover the mess of a wall with planks...

I should have used some sort of wallpaper with texture instead! (Removing the planks are not an option now).

I should have chosen some type of textured wallpaper.

Please Don't waste money/effort on ship lap anything.Please. Just paint! Use the money to rid the room of carpet, in exchange for hardwood and a really great rug: ). Nice bed.

Ship lap doesn't even make sense with the edge to edge carpet...........put the money into a payback value.

Your bed is very beautiful and I think a color other than grey on your walls would compliment your furniture. Without going back to check your post, I believe you said the walls in the rest of the house were grey?

Shiplap and that bed are in a knife fight for dominance. Don’t let the shiplap wIn. Kick it to the curb and let the bed be the focal point.

You already have the most important element in the bed! Enhance it, you don't need the amateur route.

If you paint all of the walls the same color (cream/off-white/white) you can live with it a while and then you can always paint an accent wall, do shiplap or wood. Starting with a completely clean-walled room may make you realize how calming it is to walk into your room without a color (as beautiful as navy is) shouting at you when you walk in, and you may really like it.

The walls before were agreeable gray which didn’t make my bed pop. We won’t get rid of the carpet. We like being able to lay on the floors. Our whole house is hardwood. Inspiring photos. Yes one of them is white shiplap. That’s why I keep going back and forth. I feel like my bed will be the focal point if I do navy.

The rest of the house is agreeable graY. We are doing one room at a time. The color will be switched to Seattle which is very close to light french gray from SW.

Why would you want a gray in a area with low sunlight?? I would think about that. Brighten things up is my thought. All kinds of great colors and whites that would bring light and crisp cheer into your room. I do love the dark blue/gray on walls, but really depends on your lighting. Change your light bulbs to be 4,000k and dimmable. That helps keep things light and white.

The navy would look great in there, I think. Ya know, it is just paint. Paint the wall, navy and live with it a week, while deciding. You will either like it or not. Looks like your mind is made up about shiplap, so I wont try to dissuade you, even though, I myself wouldnt do it. Its your house. If you love it, then do it. Its your bedroom, and you are the one that needs to love being in it.

Your room, and your furniture, are beautiful. Shiplap won't add a thing but expense with the lovely ceiling.

Why is everyone against shiplap wall?

It is because its a trend that will go away soon? Money is not a factor. Do you think it doesn't go with the bedroom? My style is modern farmhouse. We would use the wider shiplap which is more modern to me. Our windows are craftsman style.

Shiplap is a trend, and it has been over used and its just sort of wore out its welcome. Also, in case you are not aware of it, when you do the shiplap, you do need to paint a coat of the color paint you are going to use underneath it, just in case, any shows through. Thats why I mentioned putting a coat of navy blue on your wall, to see if you like it. If you do, you already have one step done, before you put on the ship lap. Its your house, if you absolutely love shiplap, then go for it. What others think, doesnt really matter.

The lines of the bed and the lines of the shiplap will compete in a bad way. All of those hard horizontal lines of shiplap will detract from the hard straight lines of the bed. It should be the star, and it doesn’t need any competition. If you want more visual texture, it should NOT be linear. A great floral wallpaper that isn’t too large in scale. Something with curves, and a smaller scale, but not too busy, is what will let the bed be the star. Lines upon lines upon lines is too much the same, and far too busy.

I was not criticizing your shiplap. I was suggesting taking it slowly to see if you could get the look you want without going to the shiplap. If you already have it in your home, then you know you like it.

I shared my shiplap regret story with you because I’m not crazy about mine. Mine is not “shiplap” or “planks cut from plywood” but is pine tongue and groove boards that I painted.

I do know that tongue and groove has been around a looooong time (it’s not trendy), especially on ceilings.

If "Money is not a factor"? Get ride of the fuzzy wuzzy edge to edge carpet that makes no sense whatever, money or no money, in combo with ship lap slapped on a wall like an afterthought, out of context element. You have a beautiful hand made bed. Paint allllll the walls navy, don't worry about daylight. You'll be surprised with a white ceiling, and gorgeous WHITE linens on a beautifully crafted bed, that you don't need anything beyond ,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,LAMPS, a rug, art. And that wood floor

Darkness isn't dreary. A lack of decoration and electricity are dreary. The edge to edge "builder carpet" is definitely a bit MEH and a bit dreary. .

Now .....everyone here can go right ahead and beat on me . But hat's how you play up the single best element in your room. The BED. Let it be the star it can be. think they needed ship lap here? I do not loathe farmhouse. I do not think every element of a recent lust for it everywhere and out of context makes sense. I don't love "accent walls" ............but I don't LOATHE them either. Everything has a context, an envelope.

Want ship lap? Rip the carpet, paint all of the shiplap, and the walls white and pour on the LIGHT. Then, you have an entirely different thing..

LOL.... Thank you all for your input. I appreciate you taking the time to comment back!! Don't hate us.. lol because we've decided to do shiplap. We've decide to white and then navy all around. We were going to the navy accent wall but after looking at photos online, we changed our minds. Who knows.. in two days, we might change our minds again. LOL. This weekend, we will be painting. I guess wish us good luck!!

P.S We did craftsman style windows and around doorways. The navy will make those doorways and windows pop. If we end up selling our home, people will remember all the trim work we put into the house which would make us stand out. My husband has a woodworking shop in the garage so everything we do is professional looking. Ill post a photo when we are done!! LOL

700, don't worry about those few posters, they cannot stand anything "farmhouse". Jan has actually said she "loathes" anything "farmhouse". Why she would even comment on your thread is pathetic. Green is the same, going out of his/her way to convince you not to use it. Lines on a bed competing with lines on your walls?? Wasn't that a song by the Eagles?? They are old and tired, and when it comes down to it, mad they did not come up with a "trend" that milllions of people enjoy. Use shiplap and post pictures on how nice it looks when it is done, They will hide behind their keyboards and find someone else to bash...good luck.
