Bathroom update ideas

last modified: 7 years ago

We recently bought a different house and haven't moved into it yet. The majority of it was renovated a few years ago, but for unknown reasons, there are some things that weren't done. One is the main bathroom on the 2nd floor that the kids will use as their bathroom. They did replace the window, door, door frame/baseboards, toilet, faucets, and replaced the vinyl flooring. Bathroom is 9'4" x 5' but I don't have any detailed measurements as we aren't in the house yet.

The vanity is terrible, but it is wood and the drawers are on metal glides, not wood glides, so painting is an option I suppose. The tub appeared to actually be in fine condition and the walls are solid sheets of whatever that old school tub surround stuff was. But it's almond, and has an ugly grab bar and the cheesy corner shelf.

Obviously the best thing to do would be put in a new tub, which will involve ripping out all the drywall, door trim, etc. to get the tub in and redoing that, then tiling a surround as well. And at this time, our monetary and time budget will be exhausted fixing kitchen logistics they didn't resolve while renovating.

So, is there anything I can do to spruce up this bathroom and make it look more current for the next few years until we have the time and money to rip out the drywall, trim etc. and redo the tub and surround? Options I was thinking were, add some glass doors to the tub for $379 from Costco, replace the tub grab bar with a metal one to spruce that up, tear out the vanity and replace with something like this, leave the toilet since it's fairly new, find something acceptable for a vinyl flooring replacement at an end of the roll type place, and paint.

Any other ideas for me?
