JVC T-K100 tuner.

Hi,

I just bought this unit and there is no sound coming from the speaker. It turns on, and the LED lights blink when I change stations, but no sound. The inside is in good condition, but there is some brown 'stuff' on one of the components. However, before I replace this, I would like to rule out any other obvious causes. Any help is appreciated.

The bad capacitor is obvious enough.

If it is the only component with the 'stuff' on it that is probably it. However, sometimes components will have a glue to hold it to the circuit board. Just because physically looks doesn't mean it is good. Do you get 'circuit protection indications?

I just looked up that model, that is a Tuner only. You have to provide an audio amplifier to it to get sound.

Yes, that would seem the obvious solution; but I'm not very good with electronics and often miss what's right in front of my face.

Hi Mike,

Oops! I assumed the RCA connectors coming out of the back were for speakers, but they're actually for an amp. When I plugged them into my amp I get sound, mostly from the AM stations. I'll get back to you when I connect an FM antenna.
