I agree --- don't do contrasting. (Even with shower). As it is, your black tiles will show everything from, including water spots.

I see what you mean. I do like the subtle nature of the pattern with the black on black. Still undecided though. I will keep the contrast in the shower with the white subway tile using a gray or darker grout.

I like Debbi Washburn's suggestion of a darker gray. I provides contrast and accentuates the hex tile without being such a stark contrast. The gray grout shouldn't show dirt as much either.

Black or a dark grey would work well. White would not only get dirty and be busy, but it will also show any imperfections in the tile laying

I think we have the same tile. We went with black grout and very happy with it. You still notice and appreciate the tile

We narrowed it down to gray, charcoal or black. It’s between the charcoal or black. Our installer is giving us the weekend to decide.

The more contrast you have (in any tile/grout combination), the greater the risk that any imperfections in tile installation will be highlighted. Subtle is always best in any case--so black or darkest gray grout.

The tile, not the pattern of the joints, should always be the prominent visual impression.

sorry - I never ended up doing the backsplash - but I would do black on black.
