When I bought this house two years ago in Utah, this side yard was a raspberry thicket with a peach and nectarine tree sticking out of it. I placed an ad online and said "free raspberries" and people came and dug them up. So now I have a 3 x 40 foot raspberry bed instead of a 7 x 40 thicket. The guy who helps me with my yard, Caesar, put my ideas into reality, put down a 10 inch edging so the raspberries "may" stay contained. I bought 3 cedar vegetable beds 4 x 6. Caesar put down fabric, rocks and pavers between the beds. He put in drip irrigation in all the beds. I have an in-ground rhubarb patch as the entrance to the garden. I have an in-ground bed in the rear for herbs and vines. I have the fruit trees pruned to keep them manageable - the previous owners didn't put in dwarf varieties. It cost about $1500 for all the supplies and labor. It's easy to take care of - I have minimal weeding, watering taken care of by irrigation and there aren't a lot of pests that seem to bother it.
