The layout, we need to see the whole room so we can tell what is going on.

Im not sad about your rug, but i am sad that every thing seems gray and a tad monotone. The picture frame on the wall is not working, you need some color pop in here and I would start with art work, thus you can pull colors out of that.. I just dont see anything in the room that expresses your style, it looks like a showroom. So post some more pictures of this room and maybe another room close by so we can gather a little more info.

I few items don't work.

Small lamp on small table. That table is for drinks etc. Place a floor lamp in the dark corner so it can benefit both the chair and the sofa

Painting is too short for the wall so I would select something larger in scale as a backdrop for the chairs.

I don't think the rug clashes with your chairs. It doesn't "match" them perfectly in color, but at least on my monitor it appears to harmonize just fine in the room. In my opinion, a room is always more interesting when colors are in harmony with one another and not chosen on the basis of being a perfect match. Layering patterns is a good thing. You've already got a good start on doing just that.

Can't edit my post (thanks, Houzz), so am adding here: I would work to introduce another color or two into the room, which will add life to the space. I don't mind the pillows on the sofa (move the gold lumbar to one side or the other so that you have two pillows on one side - it looks contrived in the middle as you have it), but don't care for the plain gray ones on the chairs. What other colors do you like?

Is that a photo/painting of Cannon Beach in Oregon? I like it but agree not on that wall. Could it go over the sofa?

I really like what RL is showing you - maybe add a nice, large plant, too?

PS I’m not a pro but follow to see all of the suggestions. I think you have done a better job than you give yourself credit for. This will be gorgeous when you are done!

@ BittyHaus926, I believe the painting is Big Sur. And nope, no room over the sofa.

Also, I love rooms with a pop of color, but I just wasn't sure which pop would be best. Regarding my style, tough question. For now, I just don't want it to be ugly. Suggestions on the 'pop' color? Can the gold and blues in the striped pillows be one of the pops or does it need to be brighter than that?

Also bet ya can't guess which item was added to the room by my husband (wink)!

Here are pics of the room, RL Relocation LLC . Ignore the extra stuff in the room (backetball goal, Little Tikes stem lab, etc.). It's almost MY space. :)

As far as what you see in the other rooms, those are also still a work in progress. We have a long list of projects since moving into our home.

ok there are 2 way to try this.

1. move one chair to the left side of the sofa you can try them square to the coffee table, or angled a bit next to the sofa

2. move one chair to the left side of coffee table. so one chair is on the corner of the carpet

The picture is hung too high, and it is a bit drab in the room, i'd love to see something more "alive" if you will. But if you love it, then it needs a new frame to tie it into the room.
