Topsoil, in this one case with as low an organic matter content as you can get (a high OM content will rot off and lower over time, so no compost or the like, just topsoil). If you can match your local consistency as closely as possible, that would be great.

So if your local soil is sand...sand would be the way to go. :-) But other than that, I'd try to match your local soil. In my case, that's silt.

Thanks Morph.....I’ll call a local place tomorrow. Since I never had topsoil delivered in bulk I guess Its called screened topsoil.

Note that "screened topsoil" and most places that sell either bulk or bagged topsoil, are not really selling topsoil at all but rather some engineered soil mix/soil amendment that is likely to be more bark or compost than than actual soil. You can find numerous discussions about this on the Soils forum.

Ideally, using your own garden soil is probably as good as you can get. Is there somewhere in your garden you could extract the amount of soil you need to level? Or maybe from a neighbor? The indigenous soil is the best option but if you do have to purchase soil, be sure to examine it to make sure it is as close to your garden soil as possible.
