Need help selecting rug for Entryway

What type of rug would you suggest for this entryway? I feel it needs some color. Would a tradtional/Persian rug look strange? What size? Color? Dark or light? thanks

Your picture didn't post? Absolutely, you can use a Persian rug in the foyer.

Would this work or too blah?

It's pretty, but that's a matter of personal preference. Is this entrance used often? Darker will hide dirt better :) What color is on the ginger jar?

The ginger jar is blue and white. All of that can potentially be changed. But the console table is staying and probably the lamp and mirror. This is the front entrance, which is used for guests as well as my many kids going in and out frequently, so yeah maybe darker is better. Should I look for an indoor/outdoor rug? I never had great experiences with those.

I have had a Persian rug at my door for years and it still looks good. I asked about the ginger jar color because your color palette is very neutral. Would you want to add more blue?

I adore those that you posted above, IdaClaire. I love the idea of red in my entry. The problem is most likely my budget. I would like 100% wool in a 5 x7 and would rather spend $500-1,000.

Ooooh, fun! That's a nice, healthy rug budget to work with. :-)

This one is $500 on etsy. Is etsy ok for vintage rugs?

Etsy can be a good source, but some sellers don't take Paypal or credit cards and want you to pay via some odd website that may be based in the Middle East. I encountered that when trying to buy a small rug from a Turkish seller, and decided it wasn't worth it to send money via an unknown (to me) portal. Might be perfectly legit, but I'm not taking a chance with several hundred dollars. So if you're shopping rugs on Etsy, just be mindful of which payments the seller accepts.

This one is from eSalerugs (a great source), and is 5'3 x 8'5 for $1,079. I like the vibrancy of the colors. That bit of rose coloration around the edges is a nice touch.

You might also check Craigslist in your area. I bought this large rug for our library from a seller who lives a short drive from me for $150. The only thing about Craigslist rugs, though, is that you have to be willing to inspect them thoroughly for stains and odors, and yes I mean you gotta crawl around on the thing and sniff it to be sure. ;-)

IMO the space could benefit from a larger mirror. Lamp should be placed in the darkest corner that requires the light. I selected rugs with natural fibers to work with your decor selections.

I purchased this rug & I do like it. Which way should I orient it? I’ve included pics of it perpendicular to the front door and vertical. Also would love suggestions for furniture? Thank you!! (I moved the console to another room).

Oops, I guess I should have called the two placements parallel and perpendicular to the front door.

Nice rug! I think it looks better in the “vertical” position with respect to the front door.

I like it vertical but thinking it should be closer to the door, in which case I'm not sure it would fit.

You’re right, it won’t quite fit in the “nook” right in front of the door.

Stephanie, I like the new rug. I also like the carpet on your stairs. I am about to
replace carpeting and very much like yours. Would you please share brand, style.....??? Thank you.

Have you tried it angled from the front door toward the French doors, sort of leading one toward the hallway? Actually, I like the area without your console table, which I find a bit too chunky and contemporary beside the more delicate traditional stair newel and railing. Why not angle the rug and add a mirror centered 5' above the floor, with an armchair and floor lamp in that stair corner staged more as a reading nook?

I want to maybe use a bench like this to the left of the stair railing, against the far wall. Thoughts? (The carpeting is 100% New Zealand wool btw, I can’t remember the brand.) I feel like the rug might look odd on an angle...https://www.houzz.com/photos/black-and-white-entryway-farmhouse-staircase-chicago-phvw-vp~9582971
