You're not just replacing boards. Those failed due to improper flashing and/or detailing. It's all gotta go; get what you like.

I like the board and batten too. Would you do all board and batton or would you split it up with another style siding?

What about white washing the brick to tone down the contrast? Will the brick then be a lot of maintenance? I was wondering if a design like shown below may work, white board and batton with cedar accents.

I would work more towards doing other things with siding, windows, trim, etc. before going to the expense of whitewashing the brick. If you do that you will have maintenance on the brick which you don't have now. I think you could mix some shingle and board and batten and get a look that you will be happy with.

I'm not sure I'd mix shingles with B&B, only because you already have brick. You don't want it to get too busy. That's why I suggested the gable brackets to break up the larger gables a bit. JMO, though.

Ok, so here's where I'm at currently. I don't have expert tools, so I did my best with the drawing tools I do have. I needed to see correct dimensions with all my ideas together in one place. The checkered look is the brick, you just have to use your imagination a little bit. The awnings would be copper above the bay windows to make them pop a little more. The gable pediment, brackets, and front door would be a natural cedar color. Board and Batten a cypress color (also show above) with sandstone beige trim.

I'm not sure I'm hooked on the green... Maybe a darker green or maybe a slate blue.

I would love any other comments or suggestions you might have.

I think your Tudor style would convert pretty easily to farmhouse style. I would suggest painting the brick to lessen the contrast (as I think you might have suggested). Painted brick is quite popular now in our area and the texture of the brick can provide a nice contrast in texture to other materials. I do think board and batten would provide some verticality. Farmhouse style can be fairly plain but can also look very interesting if some detailing is added. Here a photo to maybe provide you with some inspiration.

Personally, I love the direction you're heading! I have seen the cypress green siding on other homes and I think it's a wonderful choice. I also think it would help the home fit in with all the trees behind you. The addition of the copper and cedar is beautiful.

Before Tudor and After Farmhouse

Thanks everyone I really appreciate your help. I don't think I can get past keeping the brown brick as is. Again, I'm not an architect, so you have to use your imagination with my sketch. I'm thinking a light German smear on the brick with white board and batten. Still adding the cedar accents (pediment and brackets), adding a cedar pergola around the front door, and adding modern farmhouse awnings over the two windows on the front and the two windows on the lower left to give the house a little more dimension.

Any thoughts or suggestions are welcome!

I think that's a nice option as well if you really can't live with the brick.

I know this post is somewhat old but I would love to see what you did. We also have rotting Tudor and I am dying for inspiration

Hi Everyone! I just wanted to share progress. We decided to stay with classic white vinyl siding with the cedar accents and window awnings. We refinished the front door and popped out the oval decorative glass for clear rectangular glass. Replaced all exterior lights and most of the windows. We still need to rejuvenate the landscaping, replace the front deck/entry, back 2nd story deck, and cedar clad the existing garage doors, but we're getting close!
