As with mixing several fabrics, mixing counters and backsplash can work IF the colors of each material matches the colors in the other materials. If the whites are different or the grays are different, the difference becomes more noticeable in a brightly lit kitchen. If you are happy with the result, you are the only one who matters. When you ask for opinions, you will get opinions from professionals and experienced homeowners. You can choose to listen or not.

I think you did a good job and it is your kitchen all we do on here is make suggestions what you do with them is up to you.

One thing I really like is how the backsplash is busy but the counter nearer is calm, then the counter on the island has great movement to echo the splash. Also love island color and your pendants. Great choices all around!

I am not at all bashing the people who gave me advice. I'm the one who asked and value everyone's opinions. I'm merely stating that sometimes you have decide for yourself what you're comfortable with.

I didn't think of the fact that they would mimic each other. I just like movement as you can clearly see! Lol

I agree with the others that we can just give suggestions when you ask for them, and it is your kitchen and do what you love. I really like all but one of your kitchen choices. Since you specifically said "don't hold back" - I think you will tire of the island counter with its fake veins, and in a couple of years will want to change it. The good part is, the island counter will be a fairly easy thing to change, and the rest of your kitchen is so nice, you will not have trouble.

What a beautiful kitchen! The island counter echoes the backsplash, and I love the color you selected for your island. All together it looks like a very happy, well thought out space!

I also noticed how the island veining mimics the herringbone backsplash. The reflection of the herringbone in the perimeter counters makes it look cohesive, imho. May you have many years of joy in your new kitchen!

I think when OP said “don’t hold back, she was advising us not to be afraid to go with it for our decorating choices-not “don’t hold back on your criticism”. :)

I agree with Sara.

Excuse me but my comment is not critical or subjective. It's just factual that the color of the bulbs is off.

Just like if Sara or stillpitpat were walking down the street with toilet paper attached to the bottom of their shoes and I said 'there's toilet paper on the bottom of your shoes'. It's not a criticism.............it's a fact. If you take it as criticism I think that's your issue, not mine.

Love the kitchen and agree with Beverly regarding the bulb colors being off

Recent discussion about light color has prompted me to go to daylight 5000 in my pendants and later today I’m getting the same in the ceiling cans. The backsplash LED tape I’ll fix later. Beverly’s comment was not a criticism at all and the OP shouldn’t take it a such. It’s a good thing to know.

I think the OP's title "Don't hold back" was misunderstood by the person who commented about the counter. I read the comment about the lighting as an observation/suggestion, not a criticism. But carry on filing your nails.

Beverly, I wasn’t referring g to your comment, but to the comment that said the poster should’ve picked a different island counter.

The lesson to be learned from this is: "I realize not everyone will like our kitchen, but my husband and I couldn't be happier."

You and your husband are the only two people who will see this on a regular basis. You're the only ones who need to be pleased. That's true of all houses and private spaces. There is no right or wrong when it comes to taste in private spaces, because it's only your taste and pleasure that matters.

Well...there is 'wrong', but as long as no one else has to see it... ;-)

I think you did a great job. Love your selections. Everything does not need to be matching. They need to work well together which is what I see. I like the solid counter with the backsplash with more movement. That same movement was added to the island with a calm blue cabinet color. The island color brings in that bit of color to complement the white cabinets. Bottom line love it. Enjoy
