Many different ways to grow, and you can control the weeds easier. You can grow quality potatoes in pots. I think you can grow bigger Pepper and Tomato plants in ground thou. Have you ever added much organic matter to the ground soil? Your ground seems rather harsh, even the weeds don't like it much.

It is just the opposite.Ground has about 6 inches of river sand plus I spread it with Gypsum.Weed is sort of trapped between rows of pots and are much weaker and easy to remove..I have grown Tomatoes in ground also .These pot grown Tomatoes are much larger and bear no bottom rots.Bel peppers are much more larger also.

I have no interest in growing potatoes because of Japanese beetles.

I have grown in the fabric pots also. The plants do ok in them but there is nothing like growing in the ground to me as far as watering issues. The veggies and flowers get stressed in the fabric pots on really hot days while I am at work after a good soaking in the morning. The raised bed never has that issue for me. I will keep trying them because they are not costly and they are lightweight. Last year I did a fabric pot of flowers that I winter sowed. They were crowded but grew ok in part sun.

I successfully grow all my veggies in very large pots and all do really well. I think it is because I use huge pots with plenty of root-room. Most are 24" across the top; the smallest is 18".
