As background- our home is 95 years old, the before pictures are from the 1990s remodel. ( still not sure why pink Formica was ever a good design choice). We bought the house 4 years ago because we could see past the ugly, unworkable kitchen and dated decor throughout to it’s great bones. We both cook plus Love to entertain so having a kitchen that actually works was a priority.

Very nice! I like the way you extended the cabinets under the second window. That layout, and the wall color, really allows the French doors to shine.

Can you tell us what kind of support you have under the island seating counter, to avoid using legs?

The cabinets are Kraftmaid Dove White and the granite is African Rainbow. We had a hard time finding a granite to go with the white and black, but warm tones ( everything tended toward greys). I saw this granite at a Home show in January and new this was the one,

Thanks, Kristen. It’s Copper Penny from Sherwin Williams. It was a little scary the first day- very, vibrant orange without anything else in the room. But we stuck with it and as soon as the cabinets went in we knew it was perfect. It makes the room feel warm and cozy despite all the white.

Thanks. The windows were here before but you didn’t notice them. Now with the room re- oriented on the cooktop and range hood, the windows really pop.

The counter brackets are flat pieces designed for exactly that purpose. Pricey but necessary to allow the granite top to float. There are 3 of them - one at each chair and on in the corner.

This room has a lot going for it. Wonderful high ceilings, interesting architecture, warm wood floor, lovely fireplace... I think it just needs a little color and cohesiveness to pull the room together. I would not put the tv above the fireplace, leave it where it is and add one large vertical artwork above the fireplace or possibly a mirror depending on what it reflects. An area rug would be great as previously mentioned, Yes, a wood beam across the fireplace mantle but no beams or stone on the ceiling. Architecturally the room has a lot going on, I wouldn’t add more. I would add window treatments to the windows on either side of the fireplace to provide softness, color and a more finished look, with wrought iron rods to tie in with the wrought iron banister. Good luck!

Your kitchen has to be in the top 5 I’ve seen and loved on Houzz. Every choice you made is perfect!

The spare use of that fabulous tile. A little goes a long way. It stars without overwhelming.

The pullouts and drawers. Drawers are great, but sometimes pullouts are just the ticket.
