I agree with Elizabeth regarding Tide with Bleach Powder. It whitens better than powder ALL. I use powder ALL often and am very fond of it, but when I wash whites with it, it's on HOT, with added oxygen bleach and a soak of 30 mins or longer. Fyi, there is a scent to Tide with Bleach Powder if that matters to you.

I alternate my white loads between powder All and Tide w/ Bleach powder. One week, I use All; the next week, Tide w/ Bleach. All is a darned good detergent; IMO, Tide just is not a lot better. I do leave my whites to soak whichever detergent that I use. I have a toploader & have read that enzymes in detergent are effective for about 6 hours. By soaking, I figure that I'm getting all the goodie out of the enzymes. Usually, I fill the washer & leave to soak until the next morning or fill early in the morning and finish the wash later in the day.

Yikes, are we no longer Persil Pearls fans? I get so confused, though it's hard to resist a recommendation from our much-missed Mama Pinky.

Persil pearls have been discontinued. Unless your getting German megapearl universal powder it’s why you don’t see peril pearls recommended. I agree with everyone else Todd with bleach powder is a good go to. I’ve been using a lot of German persil and like it but not readily available like tide with bleach powder.

Aren't these the Persil Pearls? Of course I'm now faced with the dire decision of whether to make my way through the whole new container, teaspoon by teaspoon, or leap into Tide. Sigh.

Edit: I just noticed the jaw-dropping price. $28 when I ordered last summer, so I guess maybe it IS gone!

That’s why they are so expensive because it’s discontinued. A local grocery store has them still for 15 a bottle. Tide with bleach is a great alternative.

For those of you who prefer to use euro Persil, what are your favorite kinds of persil you use and mind sharing your links you specifically use to buy them? Amazon or just any online shop. I’ve heard of productswithstyle.com as a good site but have not used it.

Smallflower dot com carries euro Persil. The price is high no matter where you buy it, but Smallflower is a reputable retailer. I don't buy Persil from them, but I've purchased lots of other stuff from them for many years.

My favorite is persil color powder for colors and persil universal for whites and brights. Both I get on amazon for around 24-26 per box. Lasts a long time too. You don’t have to use a ton so a box lasts a long time. I did try the megaperls version and don‘t like it at all. I can’t get it to dissolve very well even using the sanitize cycle on my washer. I use just regular (non megaperls) persil powder. i use it 90% of the time.

Larisa-I believe I have read a couple threads where you stated you had hard water. I do as well and was wondering what you do to combat that? I have STPP on hand but don’t use it for everything because of the cost (I will then use borax for other washes or calgon but I typically don’t have that on hand consistently). I know they’re precipitating and just not as wonderful as stpp but hey its something right? And do you have a FL or TL? I have a full full TL SQ and usually always have a big load which means lots of water to soften!! I’m particularly interested in how much persil powder and water softener you use on large loads.

I guess since I’m typing this, I’m also curious on how much Tide powder to use as well, and if I need water softener for it since it has quite a bit of softeners in it already. The dosaging on the box always seems inaccurate and honestly differs for each persons wash routine and circumstances. And for the life of me, I can’t tell if I’m under dosing or over dosing on Tide powder. With towels they suds like crazy and with clothes they can become stiff and scratchy. But I feel like no matter what the dosage, they still feel that way. Which leads me to asking about a warm water citric acid rinse to neutralize the carbonates and then one more rinse after that to wash everything away. I’ve tried that and it seems to maybe help slightly with certain fabrics but I still feel like there may be carbonate residue left behind or using fs is my only option to make things softer and smoother.. Do you struggle with any of these issues as I do?

I have super hard water, like rocks. We do have a house softener but even with that our water is still over 350 on the hardness scale. I use stpp in every single load. Two tablespoons is enough for my rock hard water and helps tremendously with keeping my clothes and most importantly my washer in good working order. I buy it in bulk and 10

pounds last me a year. Calgon is so much more expensive and have to use more of it. Borax makes my clothes scratchy every time I use it so I just skip. With my hard water I have to use the full amount for he loads or my clothes don’t get clean. Ive tried less but they don’t get clean or still smell (or both). If I skip stpp it’s bad, makes our clothes feel like there is a ton of sodium percarbonate in them and don’t go away until I rewash with stpp. Towels is the only exception as I use line 2 on tide powder scoop with stpp.

See that makes sense! I feel like those with very hard water benefit more from a front loader due to the fact that it uses less water therefore not needing to add so much stpp in just one load compared to a TL, I have to add almost 4-5 tbsp just to feel that slipperiness. And I do a lot of laundry so it seems like the stpp gets used up in no time. I sometimes treat the water with say, 2 tbsp stpp and 1-2 tbsp borax just to help. I don't know if it's useless to do it that way but it definitely helps preserve the amount of stpp while still being able to use it.

I would love to own a FL one day (and keep my SQ too)! And.. maybe unlimited amounts of stpp LOL. One can dream, right?
