Society garlic for gophers

Anybody have any known success in using society garlic to defer gophers? Or is it just an 'old wives tale'? I've read conflicting stories.

I have had so many in 13 years, so many tunnels and I trap them successfully every time, but rarely able to collapse the tunnels enough.

But this last one was very trap smart and I think I have flooded him out and away or maybe down in there in mud dead.

If the garlic does work, any idea how many I need per sqr foot?
