Choosing a dining table

last modified: 7 years ago

Hello,

I need help with our kitchen dining and living area. It's all one open space. The kitchen is grey cupboards with silver handles with a white speckled quartz countertop. The walls are a bluish grey very light. I'm not sure what colour to go with the dining table and chairs. I would like it to look sophisticated. Also keep in mind that we have a fireplace in the living space that is also connected. Thanks so much.

Can you post a photo of the kitchen and area for the table? What do you like? Is your kitchen sophisticated? We need more information.

This table doesn't go there just wanted to see the colour bit not sure. I'm thinking an oval glass top.

Can you return this table? It's not that the color is off, it's the shape. The crossed legs make it look like a picnic table. If you want a sophisticated vibe, that's not a good structure choice.

Yes agreed. The table belongs in another space.

Perspective can be way off in photos, but that size table looks too big for your space.

I like the color of that table. Will the wood for your living area be dark - that could make a difference. Do you have lamp tables etc for the fireplace end of the room.

Do you have children? I bought a round glass breakfast table with walnut base for this kitchen. It's pretty, we like it and are just two adults. But it's clanky/noisy without placemats and will scratch if not treated with some care. I found a large wooden lazy susan the same color as the table base and have that in the center for a casserole dish or anything that could scratch the glass....we eat dinner at our breakfast table often, not venturing into the dining room when its just us. I don't know that I'd want glass for a family and all meals.

Its just the two of us and we take very good care of our home and its contents. I really like the colour of this table too but wasn't sure if was too dark. Then again, the floor is dark brown hardwood same as the mantle on the fireplace. I thought of going with an oval table with this colour legs and glass top with some blue or white upholstered chairs. I would like to add colour in the chairs. Or maybe just go with a solid wood instead. Its very bright in that space because of the very large sliding door. This is a complete reno so I am getting all new furniture. I was looking at chrome for the living space.

Odilia - Room and Board makes custom tables. You could get one to coordinate with your kitchen since you have an open floor plan. I have a glass and stainless table which was made to the size I needed (more narrow than typical). Here is one example - wood legs and quartz top.

Love that whole Anthropologie dining room and I think with your dark gray kitchen, some gold would really spark the place. Hard to get a sense of how big the space is, but it looks like a round table might work better.

Sorry I couldn't get you a whole chair, but that's the peril of stealing stuff.
