Bigger is better. 1/3 of it under the font of both sofas and all 4 legs of the chair on it.

Looks like bigger would be the way to go but...will the larger size interfere with the walkway at all?

My living room is similar and a larger rug in mine does.

I think that the size is perfect and it looks good because the larger size will come in your walking way and with the pressure of the sofas it will get dirty every now and then.

I think the 9x12 rug will look (and function) better in your room. With only 1 foot more in width and 2 in length, it doesn't look like it will interfere with your walkway but will make the space seem bigger. It made a HUGE difference in our living room when we replaced our rug with a larger one; it makes the whole room more usable. We use the floor a lot (for board games, TV viewing, etc.), but maybe if you don't use the floor as often it doesn't matter from a functional standpoint. Either way, I think it looks better to have more of the furniture on the rug.
