I end up collecting a lot of junk throughout the year that I store in my separate one car garage, so in order to get to all the holiday decorations I usually have the college hunks come by and bring one load to the dump, it’s always random items. I try to give them away first or donate what I can. I also definitely get the whole place pressure washed, windows all washed and my landscaping refreshed, as we usually have a lot of guests in the holiday season. We host both Thanksgiving and Christmas. Other than that I do also try to clean out the pantries.

I don't do much of anything. I just switch the clothes from from closet to the other. When ready to wear something that was stored over the summer I give it a sniff. If it smells OK It gets worn. I continue to do that until eventually everything gets washed. No switching anything else in the house, well I do move the thermostat setting from cool to heat - that's it.

Hubby and I both button up the outside for the winter. We bring up the shovels, salt and snowblower from the shed into the garage. Cut down the perennials , pull out the annuals and spring bulbs , tie up the grasses, and empty the fountains and cover them. Bring in the house plants. Wash the windows.

The inside is mostly mine. Hubby closes up sun room. And I wash, iron and hang the winter drapes (PIA ), and take the winter comforters to the laundromat before putting them on the beds. Change out the cotton sheets for the fleece sheets. Pull out the fur rugs and fluff, and wash/fluff the faux fur throws. Among other things. It is a lot of work to prepare the home for winter.

I live in a warm climate, and definitely do fall cleaning, but it's a little different. The usual household items get cleaned - ceiling fans, windows, etc., and since we can open up the doors and windows, I get the carpets and tile cleaned. Oven and grill both get scrubbed. Fall is the time when we start all of our outside projects. I don't change out linens or clothes.

Once all the insects die I power wash some outbuildings to clear out hard to reach cobwebs etc. Spiders get pretty busy this time of year.

I also pack up some summer stuff and get out winter stuff.

There are no seasons in SoCal. I’ll refresh the potted plants, get the HVAC inspected and have the windows washed. That’s it.

We spent the last two days getting three fireplaces ready for winter use. Changing filters on the furnace and giving the stand by generator a physical. All appears to be in good working order. Packed the freezers with salmon we caught and made a large run at Costco to stock up. We live in rural western Washington state. Although as a rule we don’t get a lot of snow we do get strong storms off the Pacific Ocean. Power can be iffy so that’s why the standby generator and good working fireplaces are important to us. We cook with propane and the generator is propane. Had the tank topped off 2 weeks ago.

Glad to know I'm not the only one that does fall cleaning. I've been pulling the heavier stuff out of storage and tossing them out on the line to freshen them up with good sunny weather as I am putting up and storing back summer stuff.

So much so my neighbor asked me if my dryer broke down, lol.

Next week comes the rounds of getting the furnace checked- and should schedule a vent cleaning, haven't thought about that in a while. Then comes ordering up the fuel tank fill.

And a little scary- I want to find out if we can really use or fireplace. It was built to be used, but hadn't in a few years before we moved in... and been sitting for years now, with a big metal firebox in it.
