Agreed, need more than just "neutral". And would like to know if you have any recessed lights, how many, and any under cabinet lighting.

Here’s the countertop choice

As for the backsplash, we haven’t completely picked it yet. We were planning for a white of very light gray subway tile, but our countertop rep is suggesting we wait until it’s been installed.

Hardware- we were going to go with a nickel/stainless steel look finish but haven’t decided those yet.

We have 4 recessed lights in the space as well as under cabinet lighting. There is a chandelier hanging over the kitchen table (adjacent to the space) but we are open to a new choice there as well.

You have a lovely large kitchen and it deserves great lighting ...I would use a gorgeous chandelier / conversation piece and under the counter lighting for the counters ..

From everything I've read your designer is right that you should pick your backsplash after your counter is installed and you've lived with it for a while. I'd suggest larger pendants over your island and something smaller that echoes them over the sink.

I would decide on lighting after you pick and decide on other finishes. Going with lighter options on countertops, backsplash, floors, and appliances will dramatically change the current look and thus require different light pendants that the current design. Thinking about it now, perhaps something warm looking to match the cabinets.
