Is it Sedum morganianum you are talking about?

I do not have any problems with it, but agree with Kara about bit more water. Both of you are in California - much warmer than here in Canada in z5, so probably you were keeping it too dry. I keep them in same mix as other succulents - inorganic (perlite, grit, turface), and usually water when other succulents. I had 3 blooming this year - first time for me.

Here are some starts from cuttings in Aug - other plant is Giant burro's tail - xSedeveria 'Harry Butterfield' that is very similar. Some cuttings have about 15% of soil added to the inorganic mix:

@kara so I think based on the water issue gritty mix is the wrong soil for this plant, unless you are willing to invest a lot of time in watering and testing soil conditions. I am going to transfer them to a soil that is 30% peat moss that retains moisture better but still drains well.

@rina I think this plant does not like so much heat and sun. Canada might be a better environment for it. I love the Sedeveria "Harry Butterfield" in your photo.

Sedeveria grows relly fast. And every leaf will grow into plant as easy as burro's tail. This photo was taken in March 2017, and plant grew to just about 2'. I cut it down to stubs recently:

...Watering: It takes little water & could rot if watered too often. Water thoroughly when soil is dry to the touch. It can take a great deal of drought, but seem to do better with regular (but moderated) watering and it is best to refrain from watering it until the rootball has dried out completely. During the winter months, plants are watered very little. Its succulent leaves will store enough water to survive for long time. For outdoor plants, additional watering is rarely needed, except during extended droughts. Exposition: It need full sun to light shade with ample airflow, but a sunny spot is nicest, though in warmer climates it needs protection from too much sun because it is not very heat tolerant...

@rina I find all these hanging plants like burro's tail do poorly in direct hot sun. They seem to like shade. I leave mine outside during the rainy Winter and they seem to do quite well in wet conditions.

You are likely correct that hot sun is too much for them. Even above-cited article says that they are not very heat tolerant. They do very well for me outdoors, but even if we have some very hot days in Summer, it is likely not as hot as where you are and doesn't last for as long. I have to keep all of the succulents indoors for more than 6mo...and that creates opposite problems (not enough sun and warmth).

Yeah, Our sun will never give off the intense heat like Cailifornia, that's for sure. Many things that can not tolerate hot sun down there can handle it way up here. Rina, pretty plant!
