Tile is hard to stand on for any length of time. So it depends I guess on whether you fold and iron in there or not. I also have sheet vinyl that I’m planning on replacing. I’m thinking of going with sheet linoleum(actual linoleum not vinyl), it has no grout to deal with and is more cushioned. So will help with sound and comfort I’m hoping.

I went through a period of time where I thought I didn't like sheet vinyl.

Now, as I've gotten older and wiser, I'm really coming back around to it.

I have tile in several areas and I will not personally ever install it in any house of mine again. It's so stinking hard to stand on, and it's a major PITA to rip up when you want to change it out again down the road. I currently have tile I have come to hate in a bathroom because I just can't work up the effort to chip it out and re-level up the floor so we can put down something else.

Tile has become my version of wall paper. It's one of those things that sounds good at the time - but it's more hard to get out of than a bad marriage when you've finally had enough of it.

Patriceny, I am with you on that. I have one bathroom, with tile. I absolutely hate it. Cleaning the grout is a terrible job and because its white, it never looks clean anyway. In my other bathroom, we bought the house before they were able to put a tile floor in it, so I installed luxury vinyl tile, that is groutable. The tile itself is light, but, the grout is gray. It is a 5 minute job to go in there and do a hands and knees scrub down. I liked it so well, I put the same thing in my laundry room. Takes a bit longer to scrub that one, since it is a fairly large room. I would love to have it in my bathroom with the tile too, but, there is also a cement bedding under that darn tile.

seosmp- it sounds like you are worried about water proofing. Tile and grout by themselves is not waterproof. You can waterproof a floor but it is expensive and is under the tile and grout. Also you need to find out if your floor can properly support tile and grout. You would need to find out the deflection of your joists. If it is deflects too much your tile and grout will crack sooner than later.

I personally like vinyl because I have a bad back and arthritis since my 20's so standing or walking on cement is painful. Tile is beautiful and lovely in the correct setting but I only have it in my bathrooms everywhere else is wood. For me softer, and warmer is most important. You may have different concerns.

Yes my main concern is waterproofing. I too have hardwood throughout the entire house and tile in the bathrooms. It seems sheet vinyl would offer some waterproofing as long as it doesn’t rip again!. I do not stand in the laundry room for any length of time so comfort would not be a concern.

I will get some quotes on each and decide from there....
