I agree. I'm working on a "baby" quilt for my cousin's grandaughter (they started it when she was a baby, but it's just now getting finished (she's 10 now). It has black sashing. I use lots of light, but it still is hard to see.

I agree with Donna. There was a time I just plain stopped working with black. I'm dabbling with it again, but very little.

Love the drama of your color selections on black, it's terrific. Am viewing on a laptop; if you tilt your head away a bit, the blue squares disappear & you see more of a graphic zig zag, very cool!

Beautiful place mats! And yes....NO BLACK fabrics for me also. I never knew it would be so hard to sew on black fabric with black thread! And this was years ago when my eyes were much “younger!”

Thanks for all the kind comments. I meant to mention that I used a new (for me) method of machine binding. I cut the binding at 2" because I used a very thin batting, Thermore. I sewed the folded batting to the front, turned it to the back and glued it down. Then I machine stitched in the ditch from the front. It worked pretty darn well.

By the way, they look so good in her kitchen that I can't believe it. She absolutely loved them.
