Help: Need Paint Advice Quickly!

Painters arrive in 2 days and I can't decide on a paint color that will coordinate with our dark wood cabinets and trim. (Down the road, we will do a full renovation but not in the cards right now.) I personally like greens with gray undertones, olive family. I'm looking at BM Grey Mirage, Soft Fern, and Silver Sage. Any suggestions??? Nothing looks "right" so far.

    I like it!

Because of your darker cabinets and floor, I'd go with a light grayed-green, something like BM's Vale Mist.

I like Vale Mist! Should I remove the chair rail or paint it the wall color? The trim must stay since it’s throughout the house.

Depends on what your looking for: do u want the cabinets to stand out or blend in more?

You need to bring home samples & make some large swatch boards, prop them up around the room and look at them in the morning, afternoon, and sunset to see how the color’s change. Remove any that start to pull to far away from your ideal shade...narrowing it down to 1-2.

Then spend the last day looking at those 2 throughout the day to make your decision.

Paint swatches in the store can look 100% different when you get them in your space next to the wood tone. Colors you may think you’d NEVER choose could look stunning.

If u want a complimentary color to make the wood stand alone then green’s with a bit of yellow undertone will work. *Quiet Moments or Vapor Trails by BM may be some to try. BM Muslin is a neutral with similar undertones.

If u want them to blend in w/ a monochromatic color scheme then go for a purple undertone.

I pulled 20+ chips and taped to my wall. So far, I’m liking BM Soft Fern, BM Paris Rain, SW Sea Salt or Emmie’s Room from Magnolia. Anyone used any of these?

I've used BM Texas Sage in a kitchen before and really liked it.

get samples and try them on your walls. your lighting will be the deciding factor.

I would most definitely paint all of your crown molding white. At least in the kitchen above the soffit. in that space it's just too thin to be of use.

yes, remove that chair rail. All it does is chop your room in half. If you must keep it, do a wainscot underneath it and paint it all white

if you did this, the baseboards would need to be white too.

or, if you want some drama, try a two-tone with the chair rail

notice, they did the ceiling too.

BM Grant Beige would look good with your trim, cabinets and wood floors.

Thanks everyone! I picked up some paint samples and will do a wall test. One last question: Most of our house has the stained trim. Will it look odd to switch to white in the kitchen?

I don't think I would consider anything but a neutral when you see Sea Salt compared to other paint colors.

@BeverlyFLADeziner: "I don't think I would consider anything but a neutral when you see Sea Salt compared to other paint colors."

Can you clarify this statement? It's pretty vaguely worded. Do you mean Sea Salt is a neutral or do you mean it is far from a neutral?

Sea Salt is not neutral.........it's green, and it's pretty dark when combined with your dark wood.

We have Sea Salt in our garage entry. It’s pretty bright in my opinion and not as neutral.

Dylan- here is our sea salt entry. It probably looks brighter due to the bright white wainscoting and also the super powered light bulbs my husband likes. LOL

UPDATE: After agonizing about paint colors (and even switching colors while the painters were prepping the room!), I finally went with SW Sea Salt. I kept the trim stained, for now, since there isn't a good way to transition it to the stained trim in the living room (which opens up to the kitchen). One day I might paint it. I did paint the little trim piece above the cabinets. Overall, I'm very happy with it! Thanks for the advice everyone! Here are a couple of photos....
