I think if it’s under a week you would be okay. Over a week I would think about moving them.

You could move your “pets.”

That's a great question. When mine are in bloom I like to put them in the middle of the room where they'll be the focal point but they get no light. I never know how long is too long without light.

I said a week as a middle of the road answer because Elena has a variety of plants that will be without light. Some succulents will start to stretch in a few days in low light, some other plants might be fine for a lot longer.

My feeling would be that a plant in flower already would need less energy than a plant trying to produce a flower. A lot of plants go dormant for a bit after flowering so I think at that time as well, they could get by with less light.

I can’t back that up with any science, but I also will move a plant to a display area when in flower and haven’t noticed any negative effects on the plant.

Temperature and watering will also be factors. If the plants are dry and temps are low, a week in the dark will unlikely have any effect. Might even be able to go longer.

If warm and watering has recently occurred, then you might have an issue with any faster growing plants.

I appreciate all the input. I ended up finding space for most of them near windows, since the outage is lasting a good part of this week. (Currently enjoying an electrified respite!)

Now I'm just hoping all my tropicals won't hate the cold too much. I have no heat when the power is out and last night it got down near 50 F in the house.

Yes, I'm in far northern California. Safe from fire, but still getting jerked around by the power company.

Currently they're 12 on, 12 off, with the recommended short turn-offs midday to cool the bulbs and (allegedly) extend their life. My plants are green and happy under these, but the flowering plants haven't bloomed, with the exception of a peperomia, which seems to flower no matter what.
