Our “new to us” 1950’s lake house has a north facing dining/living room with a 6’ sliding door and a 9’ sliding door. There is a sunroom attached to the 9’ door.

Paint has been a nightmare and is always subject to change.. After painting eight different sample colors, we finally painted the room SW Ivoire and BM Citrine around the fire place.

The new hand scraped saddle hickory hardwood floor is a beautiful medium brown with some red tone, and now I’m stuck on trim.

Since the room has no style?, I feel like the trim should showcase the patio doors. (Plan to gel stain the door frames to tone down the orange.) The room is not big, 475 sq ft, with 8 ft ceilings and not much for natural lighting. Since the floor is busy should the trim be simple/calm? Thick or thin? Tall or short? Lighter or darker than the floors?

I can envision a 4” base and 3” casing, in a calm grain. Would oak trim be too busy? (I don’t want white trim.) Your thoughts?
