I agree about the Ottlite. It's claim to fame is that it doesn't distort color. By the time I'm sewing on a quilt, color choices have been made. I need brightness and more brightness. My machine is by the window, I have an Ottlite, my machine light and a floor lamp and I still wish I had more light on cloudy days.

I really think an Ottlite is over-rated for quilting. It might be great for painting or some other hobby that requires color matching or being able to distinguish subtle changes in color, but they aren't very bright for just adding light.

I used to use an Ottlite, now I find I am better off with a floor lamp and LED bulb.

I just said to my DH last night that I thought the Ottlite was getting dimmer! He works at Lowe’s now so we can probably find a new light there.

Have you seen those LED light strips that attach to the harp part of the sewing machine? I haven't tried it but was wondering if it was anything special. I have all kinds of lamps and lights around trying to find what's best. It's difficult with an old eye, that's for sure.

Yeah, I went to the eye doctor a couple of months ago, as I don't see as well as I used to. I thought I might have cataracts. He said, "No, just usual aging changes."

Bummer.......they can't fix that.

I have 2 Ottlites. The light spectum in them is really great if you do any kind of artwork that requires you to be able to see colors in more natural light. I have them because of the landscapes that I do in pastels. Other than that I think they are too pricey for something like quilting.
