That setup makes no sense to me. It looks like the hot and cold taps are on either side and water coming through that plastic tube will be at whatever temp the mix is from the taps. In addition, it doesn't look like you would even have water flow through the tube unless one or both taps were turned on when you wanted water to come out of the spout...and then it wouldn't be under much pressure to push it to the refrigerator. I completely agree with Jake about doing this right with a shutoff valve plumbed in to the cold water supply so that you can run water to the fridge normally.

P.S.: I won't comment on having a plastic supply hose that has no clamp on it.

This reminds me of the faucet in my laundry room. It has a little hose that comes off it and I believe it goes to the floor trap.

I think that every time I used the water in the laundry sink, a little bit of water would flow through that hose and dump into the floor trap. This way, the trap wouldn't dry out as long as I occasionally used the sink.

At least that's what I thought the purpose was.

You may be on to something there. I think this is a floor trap primer - not a connection to an ice maker.

It's a thing (uncommon) for laundry sink faucets to run a little bit of water to the floor drain to keep water in them.

If you require a trap primer to keep water in your floor drain trap, I suggest you purchase a separate item to do that. I just don't see these types of laundry faucets being sold in the US.

You seem to have missed the part about "floor drain trap".

It's not for a spray hose, the lack of fittings show it's only for low pressure. This is a floor trap primer faucet - I'm sure. Not sure how the OP concluded it was for an ice maker.

The floor drain trap is the drain in the floor of your basement that is just there for if your basement gets flooded. Your AC condensate might also drain into there.

Since it isn't regularly used, it could potentially evaporate and let sewer fumes into your house.

This trap primer is to keep that trap topped up. It isn't for the trap in the actual sink.
