I like your kitchen. We needed to add to our island and put a round table and 3 stools at the end for eating. Works great for us. Just a thought.

Do something like what Dawn suggested, get rid 0f the L shape

I feel the middle piece is too large and limits the maneuvering specially when there are more than one person at the time in the kitchen. If you could turn the existing middle piece 90 degrees and add a smaller L shape to the middle, or other option is to make it a U shape counter (if the space is not limited)

Just go rectangular - to me the other section looks odd.

Don't do the L. Allow the marble to stick over the cabinets so that you have seating around the island. Creates a cozy and practical setting, with a cleaner look to the kitchen.

(One of the reasons you gave for wanting an L shape was that it made the island look bigger. That makes no sense to me. Why is it a good thing for it to LOOK bigger?)

You're not showing us the complete space, but IMO your current space isn't even large enough to support the island that you currently have.

I too prefer a rectangle rather than the L, but I really also like the round end that Dawn did.

It really depends what you want to accomplish with this remodel and how YOU use your kitchen? What works for you? You can do it nicely either way. I suggest talking to an experienced kitchen designer who can help you figure out what's the best solution for you and draw up some options. Good luck with your project.

Dancing around that island to get from the refrigerator to the sink would drive me crazy. That island would have lasted less than two weeks in my life.

love it all. long island with seating makes it seem bigger, new counters and backsplash!! your cabinets look awesome too. how do you like it? what color grout are you doing?

loving it so far. grout is a pewter color. then freshen up the paint . the pictures really make the cabinets look dark but the white backsplash really lightens the white oak.

It is refreshing to see makeovers that keep wood cabinetry. Wood is so warm and comfortable to me. Your kitchen shows that you can get a new look without painting or changing all the cabinets. I am so over all white. I'm not that clean a person.

here is the construction on the island. It was builder basic before. a bit of oak goes a long way to make it nicer. I am fortunate my husband is handy.
