you can plug in the under cabinet lights using your existing outlet.

(there's at least 100 diff types, so look around to see what works best for yours)

Make sure it's an LED with a temperature of 3500-4000K. (anything lower throws off yellow light). I have one similar to this that I plug in. bonus,,,the light itself has an outlet on it so that you won't have to unplug the light to use a toaster or blender. you would plug the appliance into the light outlet

(BTW, get some black outlet covers/outlets so that those white ones aren't so visible. they are simple to change yourself.)

I suppose you could keep your white outlets and just do the black covers, like shown here,,,but since your backsplash is completely black, I think the all black one would look better.

(i've read that you can paint them w/black chalk paint if you're not up to switching them. but really, the black ones are cheap)

I would recommend any plug-in chainable light. There are literally 313 at Home Depot alone and thousands more on Amazon, many with enough lights to do an entire kitchen under $75.

I would also recommend a switch for the plug. You can get one that is remote or attached. I have used this one from Amazon and it works great.

thanks for your responses. beth h, does each light require an outlet? If so, that would not work for me. bry911, do you have undercabinet lighting? I am little overwhelmed by 313 options at Home Depot, but perhaps I need to go in person. How do the plug and remote work? thanks again!

As I am really looking for lighting for tasks, do these chains emit enough light, especially for older person with not the best eyesight?

Chainable lights means that one light will plug into an outlet and the next light will plug into the first and so on. It is a lot like Christmas lights. The switchable outlet I recommended plugs into a regular outlet and it has two battery operated remote switches that allow power and cut power to it whenever you want. So you would plug in the switchable outlet into the wall and plug the first light into it. Then plug each additional light you need into the one before it.

You will have plenty of light for tasks. I do have undercabinet lighting and enjoy it, but paid way more for it as LED's were new then. Today they can get really cheap. Daisy chain might be another word for that, Lots of different cords and connectors to make it work.

I just put this LED strip lighting up. It was a snap. It plugs in to an outlet, and includes a switch. You can daisy chain a number of lights together, including around a corner. Best $15 I've spent in a while.
