I would change out the front door to get rid of that Victorian oval glass to something more appropriate - either solid door with no glass or something else and then paint the door a bold color. With your siding color you have many choices: blue, coral, yellow, green - only limited by your imagination. Maybe even blush or pink! I would also change out the landscaping. Go to the landscape forum here on houzz for ideas on making the landscaping having more impact.

You could also tie in your landscaping to the new bold color on the front door. That always looks so inviting.

You might not be able to do this type of shutter if your home is designated historic. However, someone changed the front door either with permission or without permission. Find out if your home is actually on the registry or if it is just in an historic neighborhood.

OP, I like the idea of more glass too, but remember if you get a door with glass make sure you have hurricane protection for it or it substantially reduces your windstorm premium discount to just about zero. I don't know where Yardvaark is from but his landscape ideas are generally spot on.

Your windows look like they are modern replacements, which would not look good with the vintage look of shutters. Also, I don't think you have enough room on the sides for shutters. I agree with the others on the door...replace it and paint it a nice, contrasting color. There's a vertical board between the right two windows...paint that the same color as the siding. As for the landscape, I'd place planting areas on both sides of the walkway (not adjacent to it and placed between the front sidewalk and the house). Add a small tree to the right-side planting area. The chimney is your home's crown but seems lost right now, so paint it an interesting color. You may be able to do this work for under a thousand dollars, the door being the most expensive thing. If you have some more loot stashed around, you could change the house color. You have the bones of what could really become a very cute, stand-out property. It won't take much money to get it there and you might find the investment comes back in multiples in increased market value.
