It seems that anything would be a distraction because it is already busy on that wall.

However, I don't see any pendant lighting, so maybe some pendant lighting above the island would make the space above the hood less noticeable. Consider a chandelier also...Good Luck!

If you could exactly match the upper glass front cabinet doors and end up with the glass at the same height, you might well be able to add a very shallow spice cabinet to that area -- emphasis on very shallow ... and be sure you wouldn't bump your head on it.

Otherwise, consider picking something lightweight (no heavy hardware needed to hang it) that you could easily clean and, if/as needed, repaint it (so, something with one or only a few colors and an uncomplicated pattern) -- something that reflects your personal interest(s) and makes you smile when you look at it -- perhaps pressed metal kitchen wall art.

Double check the construction dimensions. It looks too low. Minimum height above the cooking surface should be 30”. Lower than that, and it’s a fire hazard. Moving it up would reduce the large expanse of white.

TCK, I think you are underestimating the ceiling height of this room. I think the hood is at 34 - 36".

Mindy_ham, can you share the ceiling height and height of both stacked cabinets? I am building with tall ceilings and will have to figure out stacked cabinet ratios. Thanks.

As far as the hood. I would have preferred something with some angles and a narrower profile, as you went up the wall, to lighten the feel of it.

Have you considered just framing it with flat trim that would tie it in with the trim around your windows and the cabinet faces? That might add a bit of dimensional interest without being too busy. Trim similar to the hood in the photo below, but just one large rectangle rather than several smaller ones. This would still leave room to add a feature in the middle if you felt it was needed. A large blue/white platter or tray would tie in with the accent pieces you have displayed in your glass front cabinets.

I would leave it as shown. You have two very busy elements, the roman shades with a vibrant print and the backsplash. You also have a lot of colorful stuff on the countertops. Don't add another element. It's too much.

I like the idea of a clock. Form and function.

Looking at your other post that shows a second island, I agree with the idea of a clock on the hood face . There are lots of strong linear shapes in the room. A round clock would provide contrast. If you try that be sure to look for a “silent” movement.

Consider cladding it in the backsplash tiles used below.
