Laundry/pantry/mudroom off garage

I’m trying to figure out how to reconfigure my laundry/pantry/and mudroom off the garage. This is my 2nd draft.

What do you want from the new configuration? What is to the left of the kitchen? What will you keep in the pantry? Is the door at the bottom to the garage? Do you have kids? Live where rains or snows a lot?

The new configuration to have where I don’t go through the middle of the kitchen. I wanted a pantry, a mudroom area and a laundry area that isn’t just open. To the left of the kitchen is the living room. The door at the bottom is the garage. I do have 2 kids and I’m in Texas.

Mudroom and laundry connected to living room sounds convenient, if it is not formal. Are you willing to touch the kitchen if that doorway is closed off? Seems like you have plenty of options for pantry storage in the kitchen, leaving the closet for coats.

I love when you can easily get from garage, to mud room, to kitchen but not into the middle of kitchen. That feels too close. If there is a way to make it near the kitchen but not through that would be my choice for sure

You may also want to reconsider the kitchen. When the dishwasher is open and you are at the sink scraping plates, you don’t have much room to stand. Will you store the plates and silverware and glasses to the left of the range? That‘s most convenient for putting away and setting the table.

How much space is there from range to sink? Looks like 6’? Seems a bit far.

IMO a pantry outside the kitchen is pretty useless when making dinner I think a rework of the kitchen is the first step. I don’t actually see a mud room unless you think the laundry will double as one. Where does the open space at the top of the drawing go and I assume the one on the left goes to the LR.

I tried reconfiguring, how does this look? I’m thinking of taking some of the space from the original pantry to do a corner pantry And separating the laundry and mudroom area.

Is this for a remodel or a new house? What does the entire main floor look like?

where I don’t go through the middle of the kitchen

I agree, I would't want this either. I would also want to keep the mudroom away from the (clean) laundry, and keep the laundry out of view from where most people are coming and going.

Yes please advise whether this is a new build or remodel.

Also following as this is one of my wish list items (Mudroom, Pantry, Laundry room). For me, this pantry will be more of a Butler’s pantry (storage of formal serving items) as well as storage of duplicate food items (pasta, beans, etc.). I would still store my oils and spices in the kitchen, but these would go into thoughtful locations opposed to a “kitchen pantry”. Does this make sense? Please correct me if I am missing something!

Reduce the size of laundry room by aligning the W/D in the other direction. The extra space will give you more options.
