Where did you find the Villagio? Is there a store where you found it? Online?

If you have a link to the place where you found it, we can do some digging (I've been able to track a supplier/manufacturer by the FINISH they use...since some of the finishes are proprietorial and can be linked back to a single name/brand).

Awesome, thanks SJ. I was given a Villagio catalog from a local flooring company near me. I did find their website: https://villagiowoodfloors.com/ . Based out of CA.

It looks like a nice website. These floors appear to be engineered hardwood with either a urethane lacquer (a bit vague) or an oil finish. I'm unable to find technical data sheets (which all companies are required to have).

If you can get hold of a Technical Safety Data Sheet you will find a LISTING of materials used in the construction of the engineered planks. In that sheet there will be hints of what goes into these planks.

And often times the company that TESTED them has their name at the top of the page...if a Chinese company makes them and they sent them for testing, the CHINESE company's name will be at the top (usually). This is one way around the "I can't find any information on them" issue.

The website talks about eco-options for flooring but then fail to mention HOW those requirements are met. Usually a company that advertises that type of info will then offer a link. These guys do not.

I looked into the FAQ section and a little red flag went up with their UV urethane lacquer (old fashioned term...not often in use today...maybe oversea provider). Here is their recommendation for refinishing:

Second question: About urethane lacquer = "Refinishing should be done every 7-10 years."

Hmmmmm my spidey senses are tingling. A top level UV cured urethane finish should go MORE than 7 years. Much, more. Like 20-25 years.

Another questionable concern is these guys talk about how engineered floors are more economical than solid. That is not the case. A well produced engineered hardwood should be as much or MORE than solid hardwood.

At this point I would take everything with a grain of salt. If the price point is BRILLIANT and you are happy with a urethane finish that MUST be refinished in 7 years or you are happy with an oiled floor (they are pushing the wonderfulness of the oil finish MORE than the urethane...which is another question mark) then you will get what you pay for.

If you are looking for better than mid-grade product with a better than mid-grade performance, you will probably find something else somewhere else.

Thanks so much! Greatly appreciate your thorough analysis on this one. Yeah, I was thinking the same thing about the 'must be refinished every 7 years' thing. I was hoping that their floors were as great as their catalog :-). But yes, seems like there are quite a few red flags on this one. I received a quote of $12.87/sqFt for one of their product lines (from my local flooring company). But Antonio (some guy) from Flooring Factory (online) quoted me $8.99/sqFt for the same product. Now I know that's not uncommon, but I'm thinking (as you mentioned) I can find a better product elsewhere.

Anyone end up installing Villagio engineered wood flooring? updates?

I love the look but afraid of the product. I hear they do not back up their product which is a must for my type A personality. I heard one person tell me that upon installing just wiping off the glue took off some finish. I want to use it bc of the look and price but will I get what I paid for? Do t want headaches. Did anyone choose another better that is slime colors?

I had an incredible experience with them and the floors came out spectacular. They have held up wonderfully so far and I actually referred them to a friend of mine who does some developing. He has used Villagio Wood Floors on more than one project and says they're some of the best in the business. 10/10 would recommend.

We've had an awful experience with Villagio Hardwoods. We spent about $40k to install 1600 sf of their engineered wood flooring product in a new home in Colorado, and another few thousand dollars to install an Aprilaire 800 steam humidier to keep the interior relative humidity within their specified range. Issues began appearing almost immediately, even with regular use of the Woca cleaning and refreshing products that Woca recommends.

Many of the boards are cracking at the wear layer, with very noticeable ridges appearing. The floor no longer feels smooth in some places. It's rough and grooved. There are also pieces of wood splintering off along the knots and edges, and some boards are delaminating altogether.

The team at Villagio has been somewhat responsive, but most of their responses imply that we are not doing enough to care for the floor, which is preposterous. Meanwhile, I've consulted with other flooring experts who have advised that the flooring has failed and will need to be replaced. One of them had encountered a similar situation with Villagio floors at a different new home build in Colorado. They had to remove all of the Villagio flooring and replace it with a different product before the build had even been completed.

Trusting the Villagio Hardwoods product has been a huge, expensive mistake.
